t Scholastic Awards . . . With Various Scholastic Awards. . . Doug Mendel, Robin Sandidge. and Scott Gesner (top picture) were announced as National Merit semi-finalists in scholarship competition and are commended for their high academic ability. Billy Sommers (bottom picture) also repre- sented Lee High School at Boy's State held at Jacksonville State University this summer.

Exceptional Students ate Honored. . . Each year, three students are chosen to repre- sent Lee High School at Boy's and Girl's State. Jacksonville State University was the host for Boy's State activities while the Girl’s State was held at Huntingdon University. These students are involved in a one week stay in which they set up their own government and elected officials. It is set up to teach the young Americans of today the workings of the American system of government, and is spon- sored by the VFW. Two of the students honored this year were Allen Hood (top picture) and Julie McCann (bottom picture). Julie was also honored as Elk Teen of the Month by the Elks Lodge of Hunts- ville. Henry Stewart (top picture) attended Lee this fall as an Exchange Student from Barranquilla. Colombia. Henry was the first exchange student ever to partici- pate in a varsity athletic sport, while playing soccer for the Generals. His personality and quick adaptability helped to make his short two month stay a successful one. The Daughters of American Revolution honored Jac- quie Blessing (bottom right) with the DAR Good Citizen- ship Award for Lee High School. The award is based on leadership, character, scholarship, and dependability. Senior Officers Margaret Strawn and Eric Gronquist (bottom left) were honored as the Century III Leader- ship representative and Huntsville Optimist Leadership Award for Lee. respectively.
