The competition is sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution. Exchange Students Chosen Mr. Blackburn discusses plans with Mark Likos and Sharon Jones. Sharon Jones and Mark Likos were chosen to represent the student body of Lee in Baranquilla, Colombia. They were chosen on the basis of scholastic achievement and interviews with previous exchange students and members of the faculty. After arriving in Baranquilla, they will attend the Karl C. Parish School and will stay in the home of one of the students there. The annual activities of the club include their candy sale, spring picnic, and banquet. During the year the club sponsors films and presents guest speakers to the French students. The Lee High Dance Team performs at half time for football and home basketball games and at various other school activities. Tryouts for the Confederettes are held in the spring. Coach Dugan, a graduate of David Lipscomb College in Nashville, has had great success in his relatively short coaching career. Before coming to Lee, Coach Dugan was on the staff at Hazel Green High School. In 1967 he coach- ed his team there to the state 3-A basketball cham- pionship. The next school year brought him to Lee, and just a few months later, in 1968, he took the Lee High Basketball Generals to the state 4-A championship. Coach Dugan stresses perfection of the game's fundamentals. He also feels that a minimum of mistakes in a game assures victory. 194 195 Coaching Staff Boosts Coach Keith Wilson is a graduate of Kansas State University, from which he received a B.S. degree in history. He also received an M.A. degree in secondary education from Florence State College. While in high school, Coach Wilson participated in football and track. He continued to play football when he attended college. Coach Wilson now enjoys athletics. One of his favorite hobbies is camp- ing. Coach Jerry Dugan received a B.S. degree in physical education from David Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tennessee. He also received a Master's degree from Middle Tennessee State University. Coach Dugan attended Butler High School in Huntsville, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He continued to play basketball and base- ball in college. He now enjoys hunting, playing ball, and reading. A graduate of Florence State University, Coach Max Burleson received a B.S. degree from the school with a major in physical education. While at- tending Florence State, Coach Burleson played football, basketball, and base- ball. He also participated in all three sports while he was in high school. Coach Burleson has several interesting hobbies. He has coached the Alabama Hawks, a professional football team, for three years. He often serves as an official for high school basketball games. He enjoys swimming and golfing. Winning Seasons Coach James Murphree is a graduate of Auburn University, from which he received a B.S, degree in Agricultural Administration. He also received an M.A. degree in Teaching from Athens College. Coach Murphree played high school football and baseball, but he played no major sports in college. His interest in high school coaching came as a result of his coaching a Little League football team. He enjoys reading, working on his car, golfing, and working in his yard. He is a member of the Acme Club in Huntsville. Coach James Blair attended Florence State University, from which he was graduated with majors in both physical education and biology. Coach Blair participated in football, baseball, basketball, and track while he was in high school. He also played college football. He now enjoys playing golf. Coach Bill Pike was graduated from Florence State University in 1966. He received a B.S. degree in history and biology. While in college, he was on the golf team for four years, and he was also athletic trainer for the foot- ball team. Coach Pike enjoys golf and yardwork. GOERCKE Teachers' Aid Mr. Grady Clinton, head custodian at Lee, has worked here since Lee was built. A resident of Madison County, he has lived in Huntsville all of his life except for the one night which he spent in the army. He was drafted the day before the war ended, and when he arrived at his post, they told him to go back home. Mr. Clinton worked in the cotton mills near Huntsville until they were closed. He then went to work for the Huntsville City Board of Education. He plans to retire at the end of this school year. The Silver Sabre staff and the students at Lee would like to express their deep appreciation to Mr. Clinton for his hard work in making Lee a better school.
