FACULTY 14 General Noreil Retires General Noreil helps Duncan with his project. General James A. Noreil graduated from the University of Idaho where he was a member of the Lamda Chi social fraternity and the Sigma Tau engineering fraternity. After graduation he taught math and science at Wallace High School located in a small mining town in the northern panhandle of Idaho. He met his future wife also a teacher at Wallace High School. The General then became principal of Grand View High School in Idaho. He entered the service at the beginning of World War II as a lieutenant and served in various commands in the ETO. The Genera! served as a member of the United Nations Command Ar¬ mistice Delegation in Panmunjom, Korea; as Adjutant General at Shape; and as Chief of Military History. As Chief of Military History, the Genera! supervised the writing of the official military history of the U.S. Army in World War II. Retiring in 1963, the General returned to his first love, teaching. He came to Robert E. Lee High School as a math teacher, and became chairman of the Math Department. In 1964, General Noreil was appointed Assistant Principal for Instruction. In 1971, the General decided once again to return to teaching so that he could spend his last two years before retirement working directly with students in the classroom. In appreciation for all that he has contrib¬ uted to the growth of Robert E. Lee High School through his organiza¬ tional skills, his broad range of interests and knowledge, and his un¬ failing love of learning, we dedicate the 1973 SHIELD with gratitude and affection.
