THE BIG SPLIT SPLIT SHIFTS? 51 ' 31 What was the meaning of these words? 5 Perhaps it is impossible to contrive a universal definition, for their meaning has been lost in the bustle of the past year. Each Lee student must search the dictionary of his memories to find his own ideal definition. Search. Probe. Think. Remember . . . Good morning? . . . 6:00 A M — not even the sun is up yet! . . . Too dark to finish studying on the bus . . At least there is no traffic at the intersection ... 3 hours of relative quiet .. Only Vi of the total student body is in class . . The new bookstore — no windows, no fan, and no room . . . The old lockers for Lee . . . Sharing classrooms . . . Frantic teachers — no time to steal a coke between classes. Tense students — 45 minutes of class and 65 minutes of work to do . . . 2:00 — early . . Halls are deserted by Lee as West Springfield remains in class . . . Must be out of the building by 2:10 . . . West Springfield, good-by . Good morning ' What, still 6:00? Where is all that extra sleep? . . . I still beat the paper boy to the door ' . . Busses later? . 8 05—where ' s all that hall traffic? . . . Lunch quiet? —- no extra bells . . Empty pockets after the raise in lunch prices, but fewer people in line . . The Book Shoppe is back where it belongs ... A math lab — something different — writing on desks is permitted! . . . Student teachers — relief for the faculty ... At last, teachers have time for a coke during that 55- minute planning period . . No more roving teachers . . . Empty rooms, but not enough desks . . Oh, dear ' — 3:25 . . .
