Science The Science Department at Robert E. Lee has expanded to include several new and experimental courses this year, besides the Biological Science Curriculum Course. Instead of learning through reading and memorizing, the stu¬ dents learn by doing experiments, by observing, and by listening to discussion and lecture. An ad¬ vanced, second-year biology is taught by Mr. J.J. Schultz who, in collaboration with a biology teacher from another school, wrote the laboratory manual. This manual also serves as a guide for students going into deeper reading on the subject. This reading combined with discussion, lecture, and laboratory observation gives the student freedom to learn on his own. The Chem Study Program was offered for the first time this year at Lee. It is similar to the Chemical Bond Approach chemistry but is presented differently. Both the Physical Science Study Program and the conventional physics were taught. Other science courses taught this year were Science 9 and Earth Sc ience. 27
