the treasured jewels arrlved The trme soon came to thrnk about frnancxng the Jumor Prom A dance for thrs purpose was held on Aprrl 15 and w1th these proceeds we began preparatrons for the June thrrd affarr As the theme of thrs Sen1or farewell party we chose a summer garden scene whrch we called Summer Nrght s Dream The queen Barbara Noyes and her escort Peter Scolforo were attended by erght court members chosen popular vote Those attendants from the Junror Class were Eleanor Bart1n1 Dorrnda Costello Arlene Ingegm Judy Steward and Rosalmd Streeter Lee Hrgh was agarn the Southern County s baseball champron rn 1955 as rt had been ID 1954 The playoff game wrth Lenox wrll never be forgotten It rs marked 1n the Lee Hrgh annals as a game of ch1lls and thr1lls wrth trmely hrttrng unexcelled pxtchmg and spectacular freldrng by the Wrldcats Moey Brrggs Murph Brown and Jack Kelly were our Class scontrrbutrons to thxs champronshrp team As the year ended many of the Junror grrls were grven the opportumty to act as ushers on the nrght of the 55 Graduatron We shall remember thrs mght for tts drenchrng rams whrch however farled to dampen the excrtement and srgmfrcance of the occasron Wrth the passrng of that evemng we the Class of 1956 as hrgh and mrghty Senrors were at last able to domrnate the underclassmen By now we had journeyed over the brrdge of many spans to the school year when we could show the measure of our development rn leadershrp and responsrbrlrty Our Sen1or year offrcers were Claudra Stutz presrdent John Kelly v1ce presrdent Judy Pellrzzaro treasurer and Eleanor Bart1n1 secretary It seemed as though we had at last started a year 1n whrch we could enjoy takrng thmgs rn str1de when practrces were begun for the annual Senror Play The roles were announced after a week of try outs by over thrrty mterested Senrors The cast rncluded Donnda Costello Barbara Turner Arlene Ingegm Dorothy Branco Maryann Fannrng James Partrngton John Kelly Gor don Steadman Rrchard Brown and Robert Clark On October 25 T1me Out for Grnger was presented to a full house under the capable dxrectron of M1ss Beal The whole class drd a reputable job also rn the sale of trckets whrch was the marn source of our Sen1or Class frnances To be grven specral recognrtron are those Sen1or boys who worked on the set Ronald Smrth Harold Mrlls and Marvrn Rose As soon as the play rehearsals were under way a second group were prepanng to make therr appear ance 1n another f1eld Moey Brrggs Robert Clark Junror D1Gr1gol1 and Nerl Glynn were the Senrors on the freld for our frrst football game agarnst St Joe on Frrday n1ght September 23 The thrrd group at work was the Freshman Party Commxttee It was therr duty to bestow upon the Freshmen a formal welcome such as the one we had recerved three years before Charrman of the 1n1t1 atrons was Judy Pellrzzaro assrsted by Rosemary Ranzom and Sherry Turner who were 1n charge of the musrc The party took place on October seventh and after erghty seven 1n1t1at1ons everyone danced to the musrc of Cookre Thomas and hrs orchestra The basketball teams both grrls and boys drd not create a great deal of excrtement thrs year but the seven Sen1or grrls Dorrnda Costello Dorothy Blanco Margaret Major Rosemary Ranzom Judy Pel lrzzaro Maryann Fannmv and Barbara Turner and the four Sen1or boys Moey Brrggs Murph Brown Bob Clark and Jack Kelly drd not fall to show good sportsmanshrp 1n therr losrng games As we approach June nrneteenth we see that of the forty f1ve students graduatrng there are only thrrty one who have been wrth us for four years The addrtronal fourteen entered the Class rn therr Soph 0m0f6 IUH101' and SCHIOI years Among these addrtrons 1S Claudra Stutz who has served as the proverbral human dynamo rn Ih1S busy year She IS our class presrdent yearbook edrtor good crtrzenshrp represent atrve and Graduatron speaker The honor of berng Graduatron speakers was also bestowed on Ann Con solatr and Gordon Steadman The prrvrlege of bexng Good Govemment representatrve was accorded to John Kelly the ChO1CS of the entlre student body This has truly been a year of specral awards but the brggest trrumph we are yet to reach The golden gate of opportunrty rs now lylng just beyond the horlzon Surely we can f1nd one road whrch w1ll lead us to our goal For some of us ll wrll mean tryrng several drfferent routes For others the way 1S all mapped out and txme IS the only element ve1l1ng our success Arlene Ingegm 25 . . , , , , ' by . Class H Lstory Generally speakrng the hrgh school rs an rnstrtutron of hrgher learmng For obvrous reasons the hxstory of our four years rn hlgh school reveals not only our leamrng from books but also the development of our personalrtres When we fust started hrgh school tn September 1952 we found the road rough and the future un predrctable Frfty nrne puprls some shy and a few ambrtrous made then way to Lee Hrgh doors he erghth day of that month many lookrng rn for the frrst trme rn therr lrves As we entered Room 1 we were welcomed by Mr Rrchmond who served as our homeroom teacher and gurde We settled down rrght away to our fxrst busrness frndmg the rooms and teachers of our subjects whrch were lncluded rn f1ve drf ferent courses Classrcal Sc1ent1f1c Commercral Industnal Arts and Household Arts Mr Brown the newly appomted prrncrpal presrded over our frrst class meetmg at whxch he descrlbed the proper procedures to be followed at our future meetrngs Accordrng to hrs prescrrbed methods we elect ed Robert Clark as our pres1dent Ann Consolatr secretary and Dorrnda Costello treasurer John Kelly the only member of our class to hold offrce rn each of hrs four years was vrce presrdent The next event whrch lrngers rn our mrnds IS the Freshman Party Thrs mght IS memorable not only because of the humrlratrng 1n1t1at1ons but also because of the fact that rt marked our entrance rnto the soc1a1 l1fe of the school From then on we were more or less regarded as equals An Industrral Arts Club a Camera Club and a school newspaper the Wrldcat were outlets o those Freshmen who preferred drsplayrng therr talents rn these frelds to studyxng 1n Room 1 each Tues day afternoon whlle the Senror Cho1r was rehearsrng The crownrng achrevement for Lee Hrgh rn the freld of extra currrcular BCIIVIIICS was the wrnnrng of the Berkshrre County Basketball Champronshrp The townspeople through therr generosrty made possrble for the boys a banquet the grft of jackets and a trrp to New York C1ty as rewards Soon sprrng days brought therr annual fever baseball and a promrse of summer vacatron We now were travelmg over the natural brrdge to the state of Sophomores termed by the ancrents Wrse Fools The begrnnlng of th1s year found the majorlty rested and a few ready to tackle a year of hard serrous work Latrn translatrons brology labs Englrsh composrtrons typmg drrlls these were just a few of the trme consumrng subjects Wllh whrch we were faced Also rn the currrculum were some new subjects Gregg Shorthand thrrd year Latrn Frrst A1d Drrver Trarmng and Art Though not all these affected us ID 53 rt 15 rnteresung to note when they had therr mceptron Also new to us as Sophomores was the fact that we were now part of the Senror Chou whrch met every Tuesday afternoon mstead of the Freshman Cho1r whrch met each Monday mornrng We met for our f1rst class meetmg of the year on September 21 1953 when we elected John Kelly pres1dent Gordon Steadman v1ce pres1dent Rosalmd Streeter treasurer and Dormda Costello secretary The class as a whole d1d very lrttle that year except to arrange for the Sophomore Dance the frrst socral event Wh1Ch we managed wrthout outsrde assrstance Included on the commrttee for the affarr were Gordrne Mrlls Gordon Steadman and Barbara Turner orchestra Margaret Major Dorothy Branco and Dorrnda Costello publrcrty D3V1d Hunter James Lorrng and Rrchard Lorrng refreshments W1th the suc ess of thrs dance as proof that we could carry on socxally and the many tenth grade names on the honor roll as proof that we were progressrng scholastrcally we approached the brrdge to our busy and 1m portant eleventh school year As we rounded the thrrd bend of our journey our lrfe began to grow more actrve for there were now many addrtronal extra currrcular act1v1t1es rn whrch we were able to partrcrpate the Stamp Club Musrc Apprecratron Club and French Club In add1t1on to clubs we had many assemblres durmg the year vary them and to urffe student partlcrpatron Mr Brown had each homeroom present a drfferent program Those offered by the Jumor Class were a mock Groucho Marx Show by Room 16 The Hrstory of Musrc by Room 5 and a pancl dxscussron on Town Government by Room 4 Because of thc large amount of buslness rn the oftrng we held our class meetlng early By September 16 v.e knew our presrdent to be John Kelly vrce presxdent Rosalrnd Streeter secretary Rrchard Brown and treasurer Bernard Burnell These offrcers vsrth Robert Clark Rosemary Ranaom and Judy Pellrzzaro comprzsed our Rmg COITHHIIICC They met representatxves from drfferent compames on November 17 and chose the Josten Company vsrth whom to do busmess Afttr mdlvrdual orderm and three months uartmg 24 o 1 U 1 1 1 1 1 ' 1 ' 1 1 1 OU I 1 ' 1 1 , I 1 ' 1 1 1 1 I 0 1 ' 1 O - 1 1 1 1 ' 1 , 1 1 1 1 1 - 11 - 11 f 1 1 1 1 1' 1 1 1 1 9 1 1 ' 1 - 11 - 11 1 1 ' 1 0 1 1 1 - ' 1 I 1 ' 1 1 1 0 , 1 1 . . , 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 U 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 ' - 1 1 1 . . .
