In the school year of 1939-1940 a teacher came to Lee from Jackson High School. Her parents had been involved in the field of education, and, following their example, she, too, became a teacher. From the moment of her arrival, she entered into the life of the school with an enthusiasm typical of her character. One year she served as sponsor for the Senior Girls, Club, while continuing to fill her students with the desire for knowledge. In 1946, Mrs. Kathleen Vinson became head of the English Department of Robert E. Lee High School and since that time she has built it into one which has received national acclaim. It speaks well of Mrs. Vinson and the entire department to say that Lee has had a winner or runner-up in the National Council of Teachers of English competition every year but one. The department was also chosen as one of 100 in the nation to be studied by the National Council. Mrs. Vinson is admired by faculty and students alike, she is exemplary of the highest standards of the teaching profession. We, the students, dedicate this annual to one who is dedi- cated to us.
