use! me Wood go . a new genetafion Kao been ofcn John F. Kennedy I Our generation has been given many labels: tense, twisted, spoiled, lonely, dangerous, scared. We have been observed and analyzed more, perhaps, than any group of young people in the history of civilization. Songs have been written fdr us, movies made about us. Much of modern society is, in fact, patterned after us, and slavishly seeks to emulate all that we ,do. Dances, fads, and clothing styles which once were reserved exclusively for those of the teen age have now been taken not only by our parents, but by grand- mothers and grandfathers as well. Such an occurrence could take place in no era but the present. Whatever else we may be and however the world may react to our presence, we are one thing - a new generation. Our tastes are new, what other age could spawn both john Kennedy and Ringo Starr with hardly a falter? The goals we set look on to the stars and the thirst for knowledge from which we work toward those goals is becoming increasingly unquenchable. This feeling of newness and its counterpart, the desire to reestablish the signifi- cance of the individual, is apparent throughout the world, as well as in our own school. The success or failure of our years at Lee will best be judged by what we accomplish when we have gone. Whether we, as an entire generation, are remembered or forgotten depends upon how the individuals -H you and the person beside you -d function as a whole. Because of the condition of the world today, we have the choice of becoming the best or the worst example of manis ability to shape his destiny. This annual is presented as a remembrance of our foundations, a reminder of the new modes of thought and action to which we have been introduced at Lee, and as an expression of hope in the freshness of spirit of our new generation.
