'31 A fy 3 3 .f 3 .J 5,33 ,ix li? 5 I 64 , if Q '2 1 0 M If R .af i 1 I K JYSWM -4 -YS ,,,,,gN, X, 4 el i 12' 4 X i 'Y 0 1 3 Y i wx. , f-'Eswwiw K Y Y K kgiglkf f , mv, 4 ff 5555 i Q V Q W 4 gm w : ,, Q N 3 - 17 N f Q 1 'W , yt- -Tal 1. u - 1 1 A CLASS HISTORY HE YEAR WAS 1951 when the class of 54 boastung 700 members entered Robert E Lee Our hugh school career lay before us as a record ready to be cut Oruentatuon Day wuth untroductuons by our pruncupal Mr Gulbert assustant pruncupal Mr lockett and dean of gurls Mrs Culp was as the overture to thus symphony yet to be recorded The furst movement was durected by Januce Skunner and Bully Yarbrough The fuery tempo of pep rallues athletuc contests and funally Student Councul electuons contrasted wuth the stately beat of the Thespuan unductuon and the Chrustmas Assembly The three bug socual events the Masquerade Ball the Chrustmas Dance and the Sprung Formal brulluantly hughlughted thus openung number As the movement progressed we found ourselves takung an actuve part un all extra currucular actuvutues Thus the year closed wuth a crescendo that promused even greater accomplushments un the year to come As our lunuor year began we found our new conductors Shurley Grosvenor and Jummy Warren on the platform wuth batons poused ready to contunue the recordung The prelude fea tured our own enthusuasm and antucupatuon for the ensuung months Fall wuth uts zealous throb brought football games the PTA fush fry the Forensuc Frolucs and the annual Masquerade Ball The mood then changed wuth the presentatuon of the memorable Cunderella whuch captured the hearts of all who saw ut The revuval of the Traveler Lee s own newspaper accentuated the movement and the staff carrued the names of many of our classmates The pulse of the musuc then reversed to solemnuty as twenty sux of our number were unducted unto the Natuonal Honor Socuety The melody contunued on a lughter note when the Junuor Gurls and Junuor Boys pre sented theur sprung fashuon shows hughlughted by the untroductuon of the mascots Januce Skunner and Buzz Lord June was soon upon us featurung the Junuor Senuor Prom whuch brought the second movement to a harmonuous close The clash of cymbals the roll of drums and the blare of trumpets opened the thurd and last movement of our symphony on record Our master of musuc for thus last performance was Rodney Brumhall Workung un close co ordunatuon were the offucers of the Sr Gurls Club the Sr Fellows Club and the Student Councul headed by Shurley Grosvenor .lummy Warren and Bully Katubah respectuvely Encouraged by uncreased student unterest and spurut the orchestra opened wuth a fanfare to football Thus renewed spurut set the tone for the enture movement Culmunatung the football season Student Councul held a most successful Thanksguvung Dance As a postlude to the season the Sr Gurls Club sponsored the Powder Puff Bowl Game a furst un the hustory of Lee lnterspersed wuth the varuous athletuc events were the Calendar nomunatuons and selec tuons the Student Councul actuvutues the new Lee Hu Junx Raduo program and the hauntung memory passages from Macbeth Wuth the presentatuons of The Phantom Tuger and Meet Corluss Archer the musuc took on a dramatuc tone then quuckly moved unto waltz tempo as we thrullungly vuewed The Merry Wudow expertly sung by the Glee Club The Sr Class Sprung Formal marked the entrance of that season A touch of zest and fruvoluty was added when the Jubulee and Vodvul were guven each featurung the presentatuon of the mascot Then softly un the dustance were heard the openung bars of ' Pomp and Curcumstance and we realuzed that graduatuon would soon be here Thus melody soared as we experuenced Senuor Week and Class Nught and funally reached uts peak when dressed un the tradutuonal whute we receuved our du plomas the evudence of three years well spent Wuth the Junuor Senuor Prom the curtaun slowly fell on our symphony now complete Yes the record us funushed All for whuch we have struved all that we have attauned us umpressed on thus record of our hugh school career Before us lues a new record What ut wull contaun us for us to decude but we leave Robert E Lee thankful for the knowledge we have obtauned here and confudent of our abuluty to make thus new record a success , . , I . . , . During their years at Lee, Winifred and Mildred have upheld their scholastic average and have been recognized as officers of the National Honor Society. Not only in scholarship, but in every phase of school life have the twins taken an active part. Having steadfastness, dignity, humor, and a keen sense of responsibility, Winifred and Mildred will be standouts in their every endeavor. BUDD PORTER-with his dynamic personality, has been a familiar figure at Lee, Having stood continuously near the top of the class, he has been an active member of the National Honor Society, and has served as its treasurer. Budd has also brought much recognition to Lee through his achievements in driving and his ability has been further proven by his superb dramatic characterizations. We are proud to recognize this leader, with such accomplishments, as an outstanding graduate.
