THE LIBRARY The library at Lee High has undergone an attractive metamorphosis this year. Pale green walls and increased tloor space have made it one of the most inviting rooms at Lee. It is also gratifying to know that one hundred and ten new books have been placed on the shelves. Under the skilled direction ot the librarian, Miss Page Borden, student work- ers have ably taken care ot the library routine-a program which includes check- ing out an average of one hundred and thirty books a day Lee students can anticipate future improvements which will give the library an even more pleasant mformality if 4 LIBRARY s1'Arr rar row Lola Eastman Barbara smrrh Dorothy Langston Babbif-'A' Boyette Susie Jones Frances Green Mary Ruth Hardee Shirley Jacobs J Ire! 14 Melcolm 2nd row Nancy Webb Gloria Holder David Gish Betty Lou Morris j 4 Joyce McCoy Betty Weyer Dick Kent 3rd row Miss Anderson Clifford Ander son Elizabeth Courtoy Sara Donald William Walter Clara Bellwood, Rosa Lee Brown Jane Eng Miss Borden 4th row Jack Nelson, Donald Jordan Jesse Griggs X. Each advertiser has done for us something we cannot allow our- selves to forget. Let it not be said that the students of Robert E. Lee High School do not always pay their obligations. SUPPORT EACH ADVERTISER AS HE HAS SUPPORTED US. And let us not forget those on the Advertising Staff who spent their time to get ads. They did this knowing that there would be no reward except service to you, the students. I should like to give special recognition to the two on my staff that contributed the most - Peggy Miller and Jimmy Gordon. Thanks again, everybody, for everything. Under the guidance of their new coach, Walter Welsh, Lee High is turning out another powerful and potential state championship track team. Coach Welsh, a former naval veteran and New York University track star, began piloting the track team this tall. Under his able direction, we completely dominated the State Cross Country Meet by winning the tirst four places. In the Tri-County and Lee Relays the Lee cindermen won by overwhelming scores over local opponents. ln the third meet, however, the strong teams of Fot Lauderdale and Miami Senior High collaborated to keep Lee from its 39th consecutive victory. Following the same pattern as the previous meet, the Generals were defeated by a mere two and a fraction points by visiting Miami Senior High and local opponents in the Lee Invitational. Hungry tor victory, twenty-six boys were taken to Miami to defend the Big Ten title successfully. Since Lee was trailing thirteen points behind Hillsborough at the end of the hurdle event, the halt mile run, sparked by State Champion miler Clarence Williams, was won in one, two, and three order by the Blue and Gray. Lee went ahead by virtue oi a first place in the sprint medley, and further increased their score by winning the high jump and the mile relay. The tinal score was Lee 69 and Hills boro 54.
