STUDENT GO VERNMENT 1950-1951 Familiarized the Sophomores with Lee Edwards. This included: Lectures about the school in Sophomore assemblies by a Student Government member. A Get Acquainted Party for the Sophomores. Conduction of the Sophomore officers' elections. Distribution of the Maroon and Black Handbooks. Provided fire drill signs for all the rooms and sponsored fire drills. Provided name and number signs for the room doorways. Operated the new metal closed hall signs. Operated coke machines for the convenience of the Student Body and revenue for the Student Government. Planned and scheduled Chapel programs which included talent shows, movies, speakers, musical entertainments, and others. Sent delegates to the State and District Student Government Conventions. Conducted very successful drives. These included: United Drive ..................... Over S900 collected Memorial Loan Drive .............. Over S300 collected Were recognized as a member of the National Association of Student Councils. Sent get-well and sympathy cards to students and faculty. Sent letters to the boys called to the Armed Forces from Lee Edwards. Promoted Proiect X , a discussion program in the homerooms every week to help promote School Spirit, Character Building, etc. Operated Student Government News bulletin boards in each homeroom. Held socials for the Student Body. Conducted 9th grade Orientation Week at the Junior High Schools. Printed: Student Phone Books Maroon and Black Handbooks Lee Edwards and Student Council Stationery. Conducted Citizenship Week. Held Teacher's Day. Promoted a Clean-up campaign in the Homerooms. Conducted elections for l95l-i952 Student Council Officers. Collected a Thanksgiving offering for the Salvation Army. l4
