USS IS Oli! ln l937 trernblIng somewhat but de tcrmmed to make good several hundred freshmen entered Lee H Edwards Hugh School for the fIrst tIme For four years these freshmen have Slflved for the day whIch now approaches graduatlon day The e four years have not been Idle by any means The hIghlIghts of thIs perIod wIll reveal how many changes have been made and how busy we have been ln our freshman year ten new teachers were added among them was Mr Lehto who took over the prInt shop and a year later Introduced .lournallsm In the school currIcuIar Art classes were also begun wIth EconomIcs Buble and VocatIonal bIlly Set To Song In whIch several of our classmates performed At the begInnIng cf thc sprIng term examInatIons were abolushed Our sophomore year saw the entrance of a new band leader In our mIdst Mr C S Fox and the IntroductIon of Choral peaknng by Mlss Welch DurIng thIs year wc receIved our movIe progector and applIed for a EorensIc Chapter Drum majorettes were chosen to march wIth the band In parades and at football games School started at 8 55 and closed at 3 OO wnth a specIal assIstance perlod from 3 OO to 3 20 durIng l939 l94O Home EconomIrs was offered to the boys and many learned the culInary art ActIvIty tIclfets were also a bIg Improvement for they released the straIn on many persons pocketbooks A fIlm fee was collected at the begInnIng of the term for the movues shown durIng the year The ForensIc and Musuc tournaments were both held here and In Chapel HIII the Dramatuc Club took many honors one of whnch was the wInnIng by a JunIor of the orIgInal plav contest BegInnIng the SprIng emester a B honor roll was adopted and ha provcd very successful At last' The flnal round and the most Important for many of us are receIvIng our last InstructIon In school and shall enter INTO buslness upon graduatIon have happened durIng thus year Nlght football was Introduced and the sound system was Installed Forty two of our fel low students were Inducted In the Torch lIghi SocIety The student councIl was elected and the SenIors chose as theIr class presIdent Robert Young We had our In dIvIdual plctures made for THE l94l HILLBILLY and for the fIrst tIme the JunIors and Post Graduates had IndIvIdual ones also Every day fIlled wuth Iobs to be com pleted made thIs last year for the SenIors the most excItIng and the shortest W sIncerely hope that the SenIor Class of l94l ha helped IH some way to Improve our school MARY ELLEN CARLBERG Q I - I A I gt 1 ff' f ff 1 X 1 1 1 v T X ' l A 1 . . , S , . .
