A., IS Club. I-IISTCJRY ' On a bright morning in September, 1933, a gifted group appeared in the halls of Lee County High School. We were glad that Miss Duggar was our first teacher. She gave us such a good start that our grammar school days were made easy, and from our present advanced state, seem to have passed very quickly. The most exciting step in our school life came upon our promotion to high school. Our feeling of importance was tremendous until we found how easy it was to be lost. The first two years of Junior High were uneventful except for our pride in winning a name for good behavior. Junior Ill was a happy year for us because for the first time we were allowed'to go to the school dances. For various reasons we were a small class until Senior High School when our number was increased by out of town students. Because of wartime conditions our membership has changed continuously. Some of the original students have taken extra work in order to graduate early and our ranks have been joined by boys and girls from the grade below who wished to take advantage of the speeded up program. The only member of the class who entered school with first grade is Meme Elizonda. Florence Farnham ioined the class in grammar school. ln Junior l Susan Lawson and Hugh Williams entered. In Senior l Cora Jean Amos, Christine Patillo, George Dawson, Jean Patterson, and Earl Lancaster were added. Last year Carlyle Burkhardt, John Buchanan and Byrd Moore come to us. In this, our final year, we have welcomed Calvin Cook, Jack Jones, Betty Beverly, Kay Dinkins, Thad Salmon, Bill Cook, David Vann, Pat Van Patten, Pat Tippins, Martha Propst, Mary Saidla, Thomas Lowe, Ann Sturkie, Betty Sue Eaton, and Lois Swingle from the present Senior ll Class, and as transfer students from other schools, Bob Voyles, Marie Kehrhahn, Imogene Langley, Helen Sims, and Cleo Winsett. Our Senior year has furnished our most cherished memories, We are fortunate in having Mrs. Ingram as our Homeroom teacher. We would never have dreamed that our graduation would bring the regret we feel on leaving Lee County High School. Q, V I' 1 I fuyfmg fm fy fag Aiffaflfbug f'7AfQY! Pat Tippins is in New York writing a novel which will be illustrated by Betty Sue Eaton, the famous artist. That class produced another great artist, Hugh Williams. He is art director for 20th Century Fox where Florence Farnham is gaining fame as an actress. Lois Swingle models the dresses for Model magazine for which Kay Dinkins does the designing. Betty Beverly is editor of this magazine. ' Martha Propst caught her a man soon after graduation and is now living with her husband and three children in Demopolis, Alabama. David Vann is now a lawyer and a partner with Jack Jones in a San Francisco Iaw firm. I guess you've heard about the rocket ship that's to make a trip to Jupiter. That's the ingenious work of Carlyle Burkhardt and John Buchanan. Earl Lancaster is in Europa helping with the reconstruction of the large cities. He's a great architect. Mary Saidla is also over there helping as a foreign service worker. Bob Voyles is an athletic Coach in Auburn and Cecil Ward is playing professional football in the north. Thad Salmon got himself a nice wife and they're thriving on that wonderful farm of his in Kentucky. It seems that Bill Cook and Byron Forbus really liked the services. Bill's still in the Air Corps and Byron's still in the Navy. Ann Sturkie is a nurse at the same hospital in Chicago where Pat Van Patten is the Iiead Doctor of Brain Surgery. Thomas Lowe is also practicing medicine at Jacksonvi'le, Florida. Jean Patterson and Jeannette Godwin are stenographers in Los Angeles. Eunetta Gunter is the composer of the new iingles advertising tooth paste and soap. The deep voiced Byrd Moore is the singer of them. Christine Patillo and Imogene Langley liked the WAVES so well that they stayed in after the war. If you'II tune in WJHO you may hear the new serial Down on First Floor or Too Lazy to Go Upstairs, starring Susan Lawson and sponsored by the Eternal Makeup Corporation, created by Helen Simms. Marie Kerhahn went back to New York and is really taking in the money from her new donut factory. Of course, there had to be teachers from that class. Meme Elizonda is a professor at A. P. I., and Janet Smith is teaching at Auburn High. George Dawson is the Secretary of Agriculture'in Alabama and Dallas Mitchell is an Engineer working in the Everglades. Last, but not least, is Cora Jean Amos. She was the only Mrs. in that class. She is living with her husband in Brooklyn, New York, where her husband is stationed in the Navy. I hope this brings back some pleasant memories of the Class of '45. THE TEACHER OF THE CLASS OF '45, MRS. JOHN INGRAM. PRUPHEUY . f L I . 936 7 i1 I.. f M ' IX LJ Sammi I 'T M fl.
