Alan Dean received this honor from the college faculty. Tlianp AnmAj u Mt toTWI Tb uM Named after past president Zeno C. Tharp, the Tharp Award is given to the Senior that is most likely to make the greatest contribution to the church. Chosen by the faculty to receive this honor, Phil exemplifies the characteristics that will en- able him to succeed. A musical education major, Phil has been pianist for Lee Singers and is cur- rently president of Alpha Chi honor society. Phil hails from Cross City, Florida. Unktyjjb mhm captuM Each Departmental Award is given to the stu- dent in that department who is considered the most outstanding in their major. These students are elected by the faculty of the individual de- partments. Names are then submitted to the Aca- demic Council for confirmation. While preparing to enter the graduate program at Vanderbilt University, Rick Moore still has time for enjoying life ' s rewarding pleasures. Rick is the recipient of the Biblical- Historical Departmental Award. Pepa mMt iAa o Someone has said that knowledge is power. For some, these years are marked by a thirst for that power. These people have achieved — they have been awakened to the joys of learning — they have excelled. These people, on the basis of outstanding accomplishments within their chosen field, are honored with the Departmental Award. Congratulations go to these Seniors who have diligently worked during their academic career to maintain excellence. We hope that the bestowal of the Departmental Award will serve as an in- spiration to achieve further goals in the realm of knowledge. Devoted to the promotion of Christian Education, Randy Hamilton has served both Lee and his community by found- ing TACT, an organization that is interested in training Christian teachers. Who ' s Who people are enthusiastic, they ' re ambitious, and they seek passionately what life has to offer. Throughout the nation, the faculty of each college or university selects students on an enrollment-based quota. These students have given themselves to their school in service, as well as academically. Majoring in Secondary Education, Joe Golden plans a career in the teaching pro- fession. While displaying her musical ability by accompanying Ladies of Lee, Diane also exhibited her leadership qualities by serving as Delta Zeta Tau ' s president. Ammixmi CM m omA UnhmMB Only fourteen students out of the entire graduating class were selected as Who ' s Who recipients. To be one in such an elite group is indeed an honor. Pride ' may also be taken in the fact that the award is not entirely aca- demically oriented. Unlike the Departmental Awards, Who ' s Who takes into consideration all facets of campus life. This includes in- volvement, leadership ability, dependability, and other consideration of outstanding char- acter. Terry Patrick, a major in Accounting, grad- uated with honors. A native of England, Selwyn Arnold is a credit to the Biblical-Historical Department. Mike O ' Neal contributes his leadership abilities to campus life by serving as President of Upsilon XI. Dannv Murray, emcee for evening, revieved the first pageant to the last pa- geant. He related humorous stories and incidents in former POF ' s. Humor was added to the event when the Hot Airs, a hillbilly group composed of former POF contenders, appeared in concert to the delight of the audience. The evening climaxed with the announcement of the winners: Sherry Pennington, Miss Congeniality; Debbie Rich- ardson, First Runner-Up; Diane James, Miss POF and Denise Willetts, Second Runner-Up. Singing an aria from Carmen, Denise Willetts captured the gypsy in everyone ' s heart. Performing her song professionally, Debbie Richardson sang Breaking Up Is Hard to Do. After the talent followed the ramp scene where the ladies were at their poised and charming best. Debbie Murray coordinated the pageant and Januth Gatlin hosted the social events. A special thanks is extended to Walter Mauldin and the boys in the band. Their faithfulness and hard work proved rewarding in the special effect their music provided. David Rathbone and his staff, Danielle Diane Willis captured the past fantasies of childhood in a delightful skit entitled The Bar. A very important part of POF is the escorts. These handsome young ' men support their Favorite by escorting her to various events held during the week. This year ' s escorts were no exception. They were striking in appearance and they were debonair. Diane James, a young lady hailing from West Memphis, Arkansas, was crowned Miss POF by Judges Beecher Hunter, Ken Rayborn, Kathy Hughes, and Kathy Simmons. Diane, a twenty-one year old Junior, is a major in Biological Science. She plans to teach school after graduation. [m (jMm d dtwi j uwipa s LEE COLLEGE Since 1885 this campus has been dedicated to the purposes of Christian higher education. Lee College was founded by the Church of God as Bible Training School on January 1, 1918. on Gaut Avenue in Cleveland. The school re- located in Sevierville in 1938. returning to this Cleveland site in 1947. Named for Flavins J. Lee. early president and church leader. Lee College remains in the vanguard of Pentecostal higher education and stands as a monument to religious freedom and to the contributions of alumni and friends around the world. Congresswoman Marilyn Lloyd visited Lee College on April 22, 1976 to declare the school an official Bicentennial Campus. It is one of a relatively few institutions to gain such recognition. Notice of this distinction is made by the placement of a historical marker, the flying of the official Bicentennial flag, and the display of the Bicentennial Certificate of Official Recognition. It ' s contents record the activities of Lee College for the 1975- ' 76 school term. It has been compiled through the determined efforts of many persons. Editorial and photographic work was done chiefly by students at Lee College. The book was orinted at the Church of God Publishing House where Charles cKinney devoted many hours to it ' s preparation for the presses. For his willingness to work with the VINDAGUA staff, I could never be overly thankful. Dr. Charles Paul Conn, the faculty sponsor for the yearbook, has been of great help in an advisory capacity. His knowledge of journalistic style and method has greatly increased the efficiency of the yearbook staff. Lastly, I must mention Dr. Ralph E. Williams, to whom the 1976 VINDAGUA is dedicated. His support through the years has meant a great deal to Lee College. Without men of his stature backing the college administration, our excellent ' ins titutional standards could never be realized. With th of the : .nd, I trust that you will enjoy yox. May God richly bless yoi tUjfc David Bruce Conn, Editor ruu Lawn ■llllllilll. 3 1838 00093 2448 J. '
