IE Only a few fleeting days re- main, and another school term will have slipped into the past. For some, this year has been their first away from home; for others, being away from home is nothing new; for all, Lee College portrays to them their own world, one which they will never forget. How to describe our world? Greeting old friends and mak- ing new ones . . . the scramble to the mail room . . . singing in chapel . . . taking pictures on front campus . . . cheering at ball games . . . student body officers ' elections . . . fall pic- nic . . . long distance calls (from Walker Hall to Simmons) . . . meeting the Discipline Committee . . . smell of wet clothes on rainy days . . . Brother Odom ' s pop quizzes . . . tryouts for the plays and then the long rehearsals . . . Charlie Weaver ' s jokes in language classes . . . studies that threat- ened to interfere with extracur- ricular activities . . . lights out . . . getting your last dime hung in the washing machine . . . revivals . . . Pioneers for Christ field work . . . deadline for themes . . . dates . . . paral- lel reading . . . snow . . . tardy bells . . . music festivals . . . odor of paint in the Alumni Building . . . the list would never end! And these expres- sions are so futile anyway. Many come to our world to stay four years; others for but two; still others leave after one year or one semester, but each one makes, leaves, and takes a precious memory — a memory from which he can never quite free himself. The hustle and bustle in the hall, the quiet time before God as we asked His guidance in each class — yes, even the sur- prise quizzes and final exami- nations: all these blend to- gether to paint a beautiful memory to be cherished for- ever. As the dark shadows creep slowly through the halls, all is quiet. Now when solitude envelops the familiar buildings, when the halls are deserted, the library silent, and the audi- torium only row after row of empty seats, the spirit of Lee breathes through the vast and infinite emptiness. When the clattering feet and laughing voices are gone, only memories of former days will remain. To recall these happy moments and to make the silent halls ring again in the heart of every Lee alumnus is the purpose of this book.

i»3 Actions, looks, words, and steps form the alphabet by which you spell character. And to be worth anything, character must be capable of standing firm in daily tasks, trials, and temptations, and able to bear the wear and tear of actual life. In the midst of serving as Dean of the Department of Religion, Dean of Men, Regis- trar, and writer of Church of God Adult Sunday School Student and Teachers ' Quar- terlies, R. Hollis Gause is one whose character has not been m arred. Much credit is due him for the accreditation of the Bible College Division this school term. In spite of his multifarious duties, his high moral stand- ards and consistent Christian life stand uppermost in the minds of those acquainted with him. His influence reaches much farther than the confines of Lee College. To one who taught us con- cerning the more abundant life by example as well as pre- cept, we sincerely dedicate the 1960 Vindagua to our Brother Gause. A T I O N PAGE 3
