And to be worth anything, character must be capable of standing firm in daily tasks, trials, and temptations, and able to bear the wear and tear of actual life. In the midst of serving as Dean of the Department of Religion, Dean of Men, Regis- trar, and writer of Church of God Adult Sunday School Student and Teachers ' Quar- terlies, R. Hollis Gause is one whose character has not been m arred. Much credit is due him for the accreditation of the Bible College Division this school term. In spite of his multifarious duties, his high moral stand- ards and consistent Christian life stand uppermost in the minds of those acquainted with him. His influence reaches much farther than the confines of Lee College. To one who taught us con- cerning the more abundant life by example as well as pre- cept, we sincerely dedicate the 1960 Vindagua to our Brother Gause. A T I O N PAGE 3 IE Only a few fleeting days re- main, and another school term will have slipped into the past. For some, this year has been their first away from home; for others, being away from home is nothing new; for all, Lee College portrays to them their own world, one which they will never forget. How to describe our world? Greeting old friends and mak- ing new ones . . . the scramble to the mail room . . . singing in chapel . . . taking pictures on front campus . . . cheering at ball games . . . student body officers ' elections . . . fall pic- nic . . . long distance calls (from Walker Hall to Simmons) . . . meeting the Discipline Committee . . . smell of wet clothes on rainy days . . . Brother Odom ' s pop quizzes . . . tryouts for the plays and then the long rehearsals . . . Charlie Weaver ' s jokes in language classes . . . studies that threat- ened to interfere with extracur- ricular activities . . . lights out . . . getting your last dime hung in the washing machine . . . revivals . . . Pioneers for Christ field work . . . deadline for themes . . . dates . . . paral- lel reading . . . snow . . . tardy bells . . . music festivals . . . odor of paint in the Alumni Building . . . the list would never end! And these expres- sions are so futile anyway. Many come to our world to stay four years; others for but two; still others leave after one year or one semester, but each one makes, leaves, and takes a precious memory — a memory from which he can never quite free himself. The hustle and bustle in the hall, the quiet time before God as we asked His guidance in each class — yes, even the sur- prise quizzes and final exami- nations: all these blend to- gether to paint a beautiful memory to be cherished for- ever. As the dark shadows creep slowly through the halls, all is quiet. Now when solitude envelops the familiar buildings, when the halls are deserted, the library silent, and the audi- torium only row after row of empty seats, the spirit of Lee breathes through the vast and infinite emptiness. When the clattering feet and laughing voices are gone, only memories of former days will remain. To recall these happy moments and to make the silent halls ring again in the heart of every Lee alumnus is the purpose of this book. fl I TABLE OF NTENT ADMINISTRATION PAGE 7 CLASSES PAGE 21 FEATURES PAGE 73 ORGANIZATIONS PAGE 91 CLUBS PAGE 109 ATHLETICS PAGE 123 SNAPSHOTS PAGE 139 ADVERTISEMENTS PAGE 155 Pa IN MEMORIUM tdu rltzaerala cJLauiter He hath done all tilings well, Mark 7:37. Because Patsy was a lovely girl, her friends are saddened by her death; because she was a most excellent student, the school feels keenly this loss; because she was a Church of God missionary in Germany, they miss her faithful service more than words can express; because she was a precious daughter, her parents arc bereaved; because she was a darling wife, her husband misses her most of all; because she was a devoted Christian, the whole Church has sustained a great loss. Notwithstanding, we know that the Lord does all things well and we trust in Him. May the memory of this precious girl linger with us to bless and enrich our lives. Holding the key positions in our world, however, are the members of the beloved Lee Col lege administra- tion and faculty. Each one serves the student body as a guide, a counselor, and a friend; each one is understanding, patient, and longsuffering. Having traveled the road before us, thev faithfully point out the detours, the pitfalls, and the blind alleys to us babes in the wood, as it were, bewildered, uncertain, and oftentimes verv unhappv because of the multifarious perplexities and complexities of life which seem to increase with age, experience, and education. We thank God for these stalwart and godly guides who strive so diligently to guide us, train us, and point us to a deeper, fuller consecration and a more fruitful life for Christ. Waves of gratitude swell within us when we recall the pleasant memories that you, dear Lee College, have afforded us. The in- spiration and vision cultivated in us by you will cause us to be forever mindful of you. Certainly you are a molder of mankind. You have provided for us a faith to live by, a foundation to stand and build upon and worth-while goals to seek after. Because of you, we have been inspired and assured that we will attain these goals — not somehow — but triumphantly! Through sacrifices, we have strengthened our character, and our associations and experiences will long be remembered. May we always give you greater glory and love unending, in return for the beneficial impressions deeply sculptured on our lives by you. We, the Bible College Senior Class, pay tribute to you, our Alma Mater. If we succeed, attribution of the same shall be made to you; should we fail, it will be only because we have neglected to adhere to your teaching and guidance. Dear Lee College, always stand reared against the sky as a monu- ment to inspire and persuade all youth whom you chance to touch into a life fully resolved to Christ ' s service. TROY A. This is readilv and abundantly proved bv the organized manner in which God created the universe. And our world, Lee College, is no exception. Certain organizations are compulsory; without them life would be haphazard and unprofitable. The various organizations on our campus make life more worthwhile and efforts more fruitful. Some of these organizations govern, steer, and direct the numerous activities which are constantly and simultaneously taking place on every college campus. Others institute and initiate activities which are, of necessity, highly organized, but which contribute so much to our efficiency and development. We are happy and thankful for the organizations in this, our world, which keep it running smoothly. PAGE 91 PAGE 92 DAVID KEIL STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT B MMHB The duties of the Student Body President are many and varied. Greatly admired in the school, he serves as chairman of the Student Council and as student representative to the Supreme Court. He is one of the members that makes up the backbone of our stu- dent government. The Vice-President and the Secretary-Treasurer work hand in hand with the President to make student government move smoothly. To avoid producing students who are nearsighted bookworms, in our world are various clubs which serve as an outlet for creative abilities and interests. Religious and academic clubs are available in which every student has an opportunity to take an active part, thus increasing his knowledge, social aptitude, and experience. Bright, State Overseer, standing on the porch, built under his leadership on the Church of God Campground in 1959. The dormitory will accommodate 180 girls downstairs and 180 boys upstairs. This dormitory is strictly modern with hot and cold water, showers, lavatories, and rest- rooms for each of the ten units. This building will be used during camp meeting, youth camps, and other special meetings. This will be the first year for Virginia to have her state youth camp on her own campground. A cafeteria that will accommodate approximately 300 is nearing completion. VIRGINIA Rev. J. D. Bright, State Overseer, and wife Rev. Paul J. Special thanks go to our sponsors, Robert Stevens, Mrs. Lois Beach, and Marvin Golden, for their guidance, counsel, and encouragement during the time we were working on the book. Always they were willing to spend extra hours toiling with copy, cheeking the dum- my, making phone calls in behalf of the staff, or whatever needed to be done. Never did they refuse a single request of the staff. We appreciate also the fine cooperation of the administration and faculty and for their interest and understanding. No doubt the teachers often had reason to complain when certain students came to class with unprepared lessons and with eyelids almost closed — but they seemed to understand that deadlines had to be met, regardless of how late the staff had to work or what assignments they had to ignore! Our photographer, George Keppler, was exceptionally cooperative in coming to take pic- tures whenever we called for him, regardless of whatever personal plans he had to cancel in order to do it. Southern Photo Process Engraving Company of Atlanta, Georgia, has worked hand in hand with the staff in preparing the steel plates used in the annual. The personnel of the Church of God Publishing House, as always, have done a commendable job of printing the book. The list could go on and on, but may we just say a great big THANKS to everyone who had a part, large or small, in making the 1960 Vindagua what it is.
