Foreword HIFE IS A VOYAGE THAT IS HOMEWARD BOUND. As we began our journey, many of us did not know the nature of the waters over which we were to sail. Some have found them reasonably calm; others have been slightly jostled by the waves that rose rather high; still others have been shaken by the boisterousness of doubt and confusion. Our course has been sped along by the winds of life which inevitably blow, and our eyes have scanned the horizons for some beacon of light to guide our way. Such a beacon has been Lee College. Some ships with sails battered and torn, others with rudder damaged, food and water supply almost exhausted, the hull ventilated with tiny holes formed by minutely small but devestatingly destructive shipworms — these pull into harbor and anchor in order to undergo restoration to a sound and useable state again. Equipping the vessels for the voyage may include replacement of some weak parts and reinforcement of others, removal of some hindrances and the augmentation of certain elements which would make for a stronger, more effective vessel. Intense heat may be required to melt and remold bent or dented portions of the ship. Tedious details which may seem trivial at the moment could determine the difference between the continued voyage of safety and the doomed voyage of destruction. Once the vessel is in first-rate condition, how much more confidently can she launch out into the deep waters. There is now no fear of the winds of temptation or the storms of despair, doubt, gloom, and helpless- ness. On the contrary, though the tempests blow, her strength, stamina, and steady hand can be a stablishing influence to those she meets; she can keep the course and direct the paths of other storm-tossed vessels which will be looking for some bit of guidance and some ray of hope. We cannot reverse our course. It may proceed as we had planned or it may have been changed as a result of our stay here. Whatever may be our course as we leave, may we ever remember the words of Jesus, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in dark- ness, but shall have the light of life (John 8:12).
