During the past twelve years, Mrs. Driggers has been a v.tal part of this in- stitution. By her standards of hard work and Christian ideals she has won the respect and admiration of all who know and work with her. Therefore, in recognition of her past services and in anticipation of the years to come, we proudly and sincerely dedi- cate this our 1956 VINDAGUA to Mrs. Nina Driggers. Then I went down to the potter ' s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. FOREWORD The potter, tempering soft earth with delicate fingers, shapes the whirling lump of clay with skillful hands, prudent hands that have fashioned many vessels just like this one. Slowly but distinctly the bit of earth takes form and the once shapeless lump of clay gives rise to a definite pattern. There — it is finished. No, not yet. The potter gently lifts the earthen form from the wheel and places it into the glowing kiln where the fervent white flames will harden and strengthen the soft clay. When it has baked, he carefully takes it from the simmering coals, cools it and begins the final process — the finishing touch. With accurate strokes of the brush, he emblazons it with brilliant colors that blush like the rainbow just after an April shower. A shapeless lump of earth has been transformed into a beautiful, charming vessel right before our eyes. Thus, we are the clay from which the vessel is molded. The Great Potter is Christ, whose hands are the faculty and administration which fashion our lives after Him. The baking and painting processes are those activities such as picnics, ball games, elections, and banquets which go into making us well- rounded individuals. True, they each play an important role in molding and finishing the vessel. Yes, life at Lee has been a molding process that we shall not soon forget. In the years to come as you scan the pages of our 19 5 6 Vindagua, we hope that it will help you recall fond memories of life here at Lee College where you, like the potter ' s vssel have been molded for the Master ' s use.
