E. L. SIMMONS, President PRESIDENT ' S MESSAGE Beautiful indeed are the feet of those who tread the path of knowledge. It is the way by which we discover the immensity of things, the immensity of nature, the heavens, the earth, and the seas. It is through its literature that we have found God, religion, moderation, and have had our souls re- deemed from obscurity. It is the way by which are disclosed those things which are above and below, first and last, and those things which are be- tween. It is a guide to better living of a life that will help us to be a guide to others. This path is as a shining light which shineth more and more unto the perfect day. The Church of God Bible Training School and College endeavors to estab- lish such a path of knowledge, and to invite those who are thirsty to walk therein, and quaff freely of its fountains. T. C. ROBERT GREEN Christian Education senioRS THE SENIOR CLASS Time has passed — oh how swiftly! To us, the Seniors, it seems but yesterday v hen we entered our last year to study. But now, that year comes to a close. In a way it is sad, for the little cliques and groups will be no more. Our last year has been a happy, memorable one, however; full of excitement, intellectual awakening, spiritual up- lifting, activity and work. We entered school in September with a determination and a hope that this would be the best year of our educational career. Of course, we were fully aware that this was our last year and our hearts sang a song of happiness, but there was a minor chord here and there in ths song because we shall miss dear old B.T.S. But our mem- ories of it shall never fade. Don ' t think we have been inactive for we ' ve really worked effectively and efficiently. Under the leadership of a real- ly swell president, Cecil Knight, we ' ve accomplished much toward our project. We Seniors know the importance of a good library, so we have been helping our library to increase its books. We ' ve used some clever money-making methods, too! We can ' t forget the fun we had just before Christmas. As we sat in class, we could hear the strains of old Christ- mas hymns. When we got out of class, someone would confront us from a booth, saying, Buy a box of Christmas cards — only $1, or this one for 50c. We sold them anxiously — for books for the library! Mm — mm, smell that? Oh! What a temptation! Say, may I borrow a nickel? That ' s what a lot of us said when the popcorn machine was set up. Many happy munches went away satisfied — and we were glad, for we were earning money for books for the library. The entertainment we have given in B.T.S. is very memorable. The Homeland Harmony Quartet of Atlanta came up to give us a concert and the receipts were given to the Library Fund. Then, our very own presentation, White Banner, by Lloyd C. Douglas, was given. The play was excellent, of course, for the actors were the Seniors, and, as usual, the profit was given to the Library Fund. One thing we are doing that has never been done by a Senior Class before. We are continuing our work into the summer. We have bought pennants of B.T.S. to be sold by the Seniors in a special campaign for the Library Fund. And, so that our Senior Class can never be forgotten, we are working to form the B.T.S. Alumni Association. Time has so swiftly passed, and all of us must part, but the Senior Class of 1945-46 shall always be remembered. Nolan Akers C. E. Each council was to consist of nine members, one of which was to be elected from each of the four high school classes, one from each of the two college classes, one from the freshman Christian Workers ' class, and two from the senior Christian Work- ers ' class. The administrative interests of the school are represented on each coun- cil by a faculty member chosen by the faculty. The student body elected a student president and vice-president from the senior representatives. When the student councils wish to submit measures to the student body for ratification, the student president moderates the assembly. The student councils are nonjudicial, but do have the right to represent the students in all matters pertaining to their common welfare and in problems pertinent to the best interests of the institution. The judicial body of the school is the Supreme Council. Its functions are to counsel in judicial matters and to transact any business which the president desires to be brought before it. The members of the Supreme Council are the President of the school, two members from each student council, and the two faculty representatives. The students appreciate this new step forward in self-government and feel that it will go far toward the betterment of their beloved Alma Mater. First Semester Council Faculty Advisors: D. C. M. PHILLIPS, Pastor The Hemphill Avenue church is located on one of the finest streets in the City. Seating capacity, 1,000; value of property, $75,000, and every- thing is paid for. We now have two broadcasts over two of the most powerful stations in the City. This church is proud of the fact that it helped SEVEN other churches in the City to get organized. On the average, we have as many, if not more, attending our services than any church in the New York of the South, population over a half million. And we are thankful for the influence the Church has in this large City. The membership is 510. Everything looks bright for a great future for the Hemphill Avenue church. BURLINGTON CHURCH OF GOD Knoxville, Tennessee H. L. WHITTINGTON, Pastor The above building is the picture of the Burlington Church of God, erected in 1945 by the pastor, Reverend H. L. Whittington, and his congre- gation. The total cost of this church was $24,000. It is modern throughout; it has factory-built seats of the best quality; elevated floors; elevated choir with baptistry built in back of the choir; it has beautiful art glass windows; and it has a pastor ' s study on the main floor. In the basement there are six Sunday School rooms, kitchen, and ladies ' lounge. Its heating equipment is of the very best. This building is located in a very beautiful section of East Knoxville, only one block from the car line. Since the new building has been erected, the membership has more than doubled and the Sunday School has increased five times in attendance.
