THE CRESCENT 31 HAROLD HASKELL When Harold Haskell due to lll health retlred from buslness and pub llc office soon after January 1945 he could be congratulated on servmg h1s communlty well He has represented thls d1str1ct n the State legxslature tW1C6 11937 and 19381 and 1n 1941 he was elected to the Senate H1s second term expned ln 1945 Mr Haskell IS deeply lnterested 111 been a trustee for 30 years He has served as Presldent ot thls board dur 1ng the past 13 years Practlcally all of Mr Haskell s hfe has been spent 1n the town of Lee He was born October 28 1877 1n what IS now the parsonage Many years lat er he bought this house and three chlldren were born to h1m and Georg1 anna Lowell Haskell whom he mar rled ln 1904 H1s daughter Ehzabeth Haskell was born ln the same room of that house on the 1dent1ca1 day of thc week 1nd the month of the year he ww IS born In 1911 he mox ed to h1s present home After attendlng the rade schools ln Lee he was graduated from Lee Academy 1n 1903 He consld ers hxs faxthful attendance for many years ln church and school the most xaluable part of h1S educatlon Mr Haskell entered GIRYS Buslness Col lege 1n Portland 1n 1898 and ln 1900 xx as ready to go 1nto buslness for hlm self Wxth Mr Rlggs he bought the old Mallet M111 property and operated a cleamery and grlst m1l1 for several sears These two men bought the general store and busmess of George Haskell 111 1909 Atter a few years he bought Mr Rlggs 1nte1est and later hlS son M3dl80H came 1nto the busmess as h1S partner The town of Lee respects Mr Has kell is one of 1ts best cltlzens and he 1s an 1nsp1r1t1on to the youth of Lee Academy . , ' X 2 , ' ' , - 'as ' . 7, Y ' 7 v xi .
