Graduation Diplomas, Awards, Proud Parents Graduation night- june 3, 1983. There is a feeling of excitement in the air as the proud parents, led by the junior Marshals, fill the stands. As the beginning notes of Pomp and Circumstance drifted through the gymnasium, the class of 1983 began its processional, and all of the guests were looking for their special graduate. After Dr. William A. Sutphin, jr. gave the invocation, Amy Black and Dean Marion, accompanied by Steve Sutphin, performed the senior class song, Up Where We Belong. They were then joined by the rest of the talented seniors from Chorus ll to sing Memories David jackson, the president of the senior class, introduced the platform guests, and was followed by Kay Willoughby, salutatorian, and Gary jones, valedic- torian, who delivered speeches to the class and guests. The awards were then presented. Steve Wil- liams received the Boy's Citizenship Award, and jeanie Myers received the Girl's Citizenship Award. Gary jones was awarded the Most Outstanding Senior Award. Mr. Gilbert Buck and Mr. Larry McAlpine presented the diplomas to the seniors.
