Beta Club To become a member of the Beta Club, one must be a iunior or a senior with at least a 93.0 grade average. He or she must possess qualities of achievement, good character, and leadership. This year's Beta Club lived up to these standards and more. After a formal tapping and invitation into the club, the new members went through the dreaded initia- tion. This year guests lnew members in costumej included Richard Simmons, Miss Piggy and The Smurf gang along with many more. After the new members were settled, the club be- gan doing what it has a reputation for doing - help- ing others. At Thanksgiving members made fruit bas- kets for needy families. ln December, 5310.00 was collected to buy leg braces for Shannon Scarlett of Thomasville and money was collected for the Christ- mas Cheer Fund. Along with maintaining high academic standards, this group is never short on fun. ln December, they attended the Central District Convention at North Moore High School. While there Ledford's talent group, Dissension, came away with second place in the talent competition. ln February they sold Val-o- grams, which are always a big hit with the students. They also sold doughnuts to help pay their way to the State Convention in Raleigh, which most members attended.
