The school will miss Sarge when he retires be- cause he always put work before leisure. The school was always kept clean. So L. H, S. says, Thank you, Sarge. We are sorry to see you leave because we know' you will be hard to replace. Mary Norris Mary Norris, the first grade teacher at Lebo, retiring at the close of this term. Mrs. Norris has tau 21 classes of first graders while she was a teacher here. After a class finished the first grade, they thought she was a mean-ole teacher. The school bell rang--the walls bulged wide When twenty-five beginners rushed inside. They looked at their teacher with a toothless grin, Then at each other when she said, Let's begin. They struggled with sounds from A through Z. They learned to count 1-2-3- Writing the letters was no easy task, and learn to read--they accomplished at last. The year was so filled with joys to share, the time flew by quickly and they climbed the first stair Their footsteps were tiny--they all looked so small As they entered their new room at the end of the hall. More drilling, more learning, mastering word after word And before they realized, they had entered the third, Fourth, fifth, sixth--the years seemed to fly Then twenty-two happy youngsters entered Junior High. ton, Doug Smith, Debra Carr, Chris Combes, Gary Knight, Mrs. Norris. FRONT ROW: Nancy Zink, Gail Evans, Cindy Freund, Tina Fleming, Steve Houser, Craig Ellis. Parties, cheerleaders, ball games or test Whatever the challenge, they gave it their best. Two more years of study, two years to progress Then the grade teachers wished them, the Best. E Just four years ago they wished high school would begin And twenty-four little freshmen did enter in. All sorts of privileges they believed to be theirs Until they met the teachers face to face on the stairs. Now things will be different, they're leaving the nest, And the dear, faithful teachers have earned a rest. They are sending them out to a world of confusion Hoping each will settle in a field of good choosing. School days have been grand! Things were such fun! Now the solo flights have just begun. May the sailing be pleasant, and clouds just a few To make beautiful tomorrows for each one of you. Through numerous projects of sharing with each other and with people who needed help, the Kayette girls learned a little more about leadership, reliability, courtesy, respect and service. Kayettes camped out, collected for the Kansas Children's Service League, adopted an Indian family, provided a football games nursery and sponsored an all school Valentine's party. They at- tended unit conference at Williamsburg and sent officers to regional conference at Cherokee Southeast. Two girls attended Leadership Camp at Rock Springs in the summer in preparation for their second 1000-point year. s The FBLA chapter started the year by sponsoring a Halloween Parade for pre-schoolers through fourth ' 'mam 5 ? The chapter sponsored a Walkathon in November and raised dollars for the March of Dimes fight against birth defects. The FBLA chapter of Lebo was repre- sented very well at the Regional Convention February 10 and at the State Convention March 29-30, where they won many outstanding awards. Lebo's parliamentary procedure team will represent Kansas at the National Convention in Washington D.C. in June. The Chapter ended the year by sponsoring the Easter egg hunt and Easter Hat Contest for the lower elementary students. It was enjoyed by all. The Student Council's main function is to be a service to the student body and community. This year the Council thinks they have succeeded in both cases. The 13 members of the Council and two students from the student body collected for Jerry Lewis's, Shamrocks for Dystrophy. The Council collected S116 for this cause. As a learning aid for the Council Joyce Hutchinson, Connie Evans, Bill Allegre, and Sherie Small attended a Student Council workshop for leadership. Student Council sponsored a Christmas party with an old-fashioned hay rack ride and a dance afterwards. Gifts from the exchange were given to the Salvation Army. Council held a STUCO day to find out how the students felt about Council and ways it ould improve. Many students deserve to be recognized for the hard work on projects and in organizations. Student Council alt they should be awarded for their leadership. A student of the year award was presented to the boy and girl who had one a great deal for our school this year. 61 3 X7 X T Q .4-.'
