StuCo Service Projects Tom Dooley Febru ary, 1971 Dear Student Council President: A year ago we members of Saginaw Youth Council asked our fellow' students the country over to help us carry on the spirit and mission of the late Dr. Tom Dooley. Today, as we renew our appeal, an estimated 6o,ooo students have responded. . many thousands of them by contributing the cost of a school lunch. On desposit with the Dooley Foundation is 3520,000, the total of these contributions! Now we're appealing to you and your school to help us FINISH IT FOR DOOLEY. We're appealing to you and your school to help us raise the additional 380,000 needed...to build, equip, staff and operate for one year a hospital ship for the Dooley Foundation in Southeast Asia. The ship will be named YOUTH AMERICA and on its cabin wall will be inscribed the name of every contributing school. It will be our generation of students telling the world Young America care-s...not only about helping the poor and helpless, but also about carrying on the spirit of a young man who cared more than most and who sacrificed more than most. We're asking your school to help FINISH IT FOR DOOLEY. We're asking that April 6 be set aside as FINISH IT FOB. DOOLEIY Day and on that day students be invited to give up their lunch and contribute its cost to the project. We also are asking schools to help their students and community become acquainted with Dr. Tom Dooley and his mission to the world's poor. will you help us get the ball rolling for Dooley in your school? Stuco Activities fills? 6 Li The Student Council sponsored a float contest at regional tournament time to promote school spiritg each class participated. This year Lebo experimented with an Intra- League StuCo. Students from Lyndon, Burlin- game, Pamona, Melvern, Williamsburg and Lebo's Student Councils met several times. At the end of the year the I-L Council sponsored a dance at Pamona. 6155 Many agreed that StuCo Day this year was the most rewarding ever. Current events were dis- cussed which let people express their opinions on today's prominent problems. Election day went off with its usual vigor and the officers for the new year were installed.
