The campus came to life for Fredrick P. Sample ' s inauguration. It was the official beginning of a reign begun seven months earlier which already had several achievements to its credit, in- cluding the start toward new student government. Pomp was the order of the day, as representatives from eastern colleges and universities in their academic finery joined with a full house consisting of students, alumni, and friends to install a new presi- dent. 28

H.M.S. Pinafore Outstanding Success For the first time in recent years, Lebanon Valley staged an operetta, which was enthusiastically received. The melo- dramatic production would have brought tears to young girls ' eyes fifty years ago, but brought tears of laughter this spring. The outstanding production was highlighted by excellent performances from Jean McClelland, Ron Poor- man, Marilyn Whitmire, Gary Weber, and Ed Kisiel under the direction of Tom Hostetter. As the excitement and en- thusiasm rose, so did the long hours and late nights of practice. Every member of the cast was rewarded with a standing ovation. 27

Challenge and Decision With the graduation of the senior class, the campus dies for the summer. For the graduate, it is the end of his career in the ivory tower of Valley ' s campus. For some will come the challenge of still further education, while the others tackle a career they have chosen and begin facing the chal- lenge of the outside world. 29
