AND YET- The achievements of the past have become a matter of history. Many important chapters of the Universityts record have been engraved in the hearts and memories of her children and eternalized in the service they have render- ed for the welfare of humanity. But the book is not yet written. The latter chapters will fully justify the faith of the founder and the hopes of his helpers. The principles for which they contended were fundamental ones. While their expression must be mod- ified to meet the new conditions of the present days, their integrity will be preserved. There are yet many reasons for the maintenance of an institution which makes ample provision for the development of the studentls individual powers by directing him in their use. The personal factor will continue to be an im- portant factor in the conduct of the University's work. The institution has never done better work than she is doing at the present time. Neither have her opportunities for really effective and permanent work ever been better, nor has it received higher recognition. May not all her friends unite in writing into the further chapters of the Universityts history the most glorious record of the whole book. And may the closing word be added only when He whose truth we seek to perpetuate shall say His last ttWell done. IZPage N inety-eightl
