f cot Funky Friday Funky Friday was the day set aside to be funky. Every event from Halloween to Easter was celebrated by dressing up in an appropriate manner. Randomly through- out the year, Fridays were assigned a particular kind of funk (suck as Funky Hat Day, Funky Glasses Day, etc...), and the entire Student Body was invited to par- ticipate and show spirit for their class. On special Fridays, judges were chosen to pick the best costumes. Participation was the key as students tried to out do each other in creating the funkiest garb. Mike Potter flies through the halls with the greatest of ease. Ms. Peg Rees wonders how many times she has to go through it. Next step ... Mr. America . . . what a “ghoul’ guy! 28

Girls’ State A whole week without boys could have been the woeful ex- clamation from any one of the last year’s Girls’ Staters, Martha Potter, Kathy Carner, Kerrie Cox, Susan Salisbury, or Marilyn Dukes when they discovered that they were to represent Lebanon at Oregon’s Girls’ State. Girls’ State is a government training camp sponsored by the American Auxiliary for girls who have completed their junior year at high school. Participants attend a week- long session at Willamette University learning about state and local government. Girls are divided into five countries and ten cities and are given the op- portunity to become officials, have party conventions (Nationalists and Federalists) and vote in a state elec- tion (that is, if they’ve registered). In addition to political proceedings each country was responsible for a flag ceremony, fashion show and part of a talent show. With fifty girls to a floor, you soon learn a lot about friendship as well as how long you can stay in bed and still make it to one of the six showers before the other forty-nine girls!! Kerrie Cox has other things on her mind besides thinking about bills. Susan Salisbury, Marilyn Dukes, Kerrie Cox, Martha Potter, Kathy earner 30
