r Winter Play TO £ Q C Dewey Frederick became alcoholic, Deanna Glaser went temporarily insane and Ruth Kerr’s “mother” died. Why did these tragic changes overcome these and many other students of LUHS? Research into their after-school hours showed that these dedicated students were changing their personalities to get into their parts for the Winter Play, “The Drunkard.” “The Drunkard,” directed by Mrs. Susan Hamer with student director, Susan Salisbury, got off to a late start when rain and snow plagued the first week of rehear- sals. But with the help of a few weekend rehearsals and sincere cast members, lost time was made up, and the play opened on schedule, February 13th through the 15th. First performed in 1844 to aid the tem- perance movement, “The Drunkard’s” per- formance here at LUHS aided the students The fiendish villian (Joe Smith) is rewarded by hisses and boos from the audience. 20
