r |jjg and Fall Play CO s u. With a stowaway named Chester, the cast and crew of the Fall Play, “H.M.S. Pinafore,” made a successful voyage in the LUHS Auditorium November 16, 17 and 18. “H.M.S. pinafore” was one hundred years old this year, (the play, not the ship!) and that was one of the main reasons that Director Mrs. Susan Hamer chose to produce it. With Captain Hamer at the helm and with the suc- cessful steering done by assistant director- navigator Kellie Hoffman, characters such as Sir Joseph Porter, First Lord of the Ad- miralty (Dave Farrington), Joesephine (Katie Mangan) and Ralph Rackstraw (Don Stewart) came to life and became entagled in a dif- ficult love triangle and status quo problems (Lowly sailor falls in love with captain's daughter who is being forced to marry the Lord of the Admiralty, etc.). More romantic problems, too, involve poor Captain Cor- coran (Jeren Rowell), who is in love with a poor peddler woman, Little Buttercup (Ruth Brazel). Class pride strikes again! Music played an important part in “Pinafore.” Jeren Rowell filled a newly ad- ded director’s position as Student Musical Director. Mr. Pete Butler, Mr. Mel Knight and Mrs. Betty Mangan plus a few assorted band members combined their talents to make sailors like Dewey Frederick and Ross Scheuermann jig and sing (?) to, and for assorted “sisters, cousins and aunts” of Sir Porter’s to sway and harmonize to.
