Griffith, Primrose, Mitchell, Malick, Nicholas, Frtgrnon, Student Council I am sure all the students will agree that this year has been a busy, but successful one. Many activities and duties carried on by the Student Council has kept everyone working. There have been committees working to promote activities such as a school flag, a clock in the main hall, and a time-clock for the gym. The greatest attribute to the Student Body General Fund and clubs has been through the concession stand and Student Cooperative Store. The popcorn machine purchased by the student body has proved to be favored by everyone at games and during the lunch hour. One of the main proiects of the executive committee this year has been the re- writing ot a new constitution to replace the old one. Lots ot hard work has been spent on the organizing ot this and we are glad the Student Body voted it through. Dedication ot the new school was held January 26, and termed a big success, Student Council members were asked to help assist in directing visitors to their desired designation and to hand out programs. The students, administration, and towns tolk should all be congratulated on their help and attendance. We, as your Student Body Officers, have worked very hard to represent the school in the way you would like us to, and to complete all of our duties to the best of our ability. 20 4. .M Vmvwimg k I: is .F Q 5 Q! mem WELLS ga uiafozmn 23 Upper I0 M !66ZLCi0ZLdlft GLENN MESSAL DALTON PLIJNKETT 'I DOUG COLLINSON 10 ll BONNIE JOHNSON RICHARD NIXON J. A fixed amount of S650 is contributed to the A FS, to provide transportation and all but some small incidental expenses in bringing a student to the US. A local A.F.S. committee was formed in March, 1957, and through the generosity of the Crown Zellerbach Corporation, Lebanon is fortunate to have as a resident student this school year, Gianni Casetta from Legnano, Milan, Italy, Gianni is living with Kent Wells and his family. As a further extension of the A.F.S. work, it is also possible for any school having a foreign ex- change student to send one of their own students abroad the following summer. American teenagers, I6 to T7 years of age, live abroad and thus get a chance to become acquainted with the life and people and education of another country. The Leb- anon A.F.S. committee selected four girls as their candidates for the Americans Abroad Scholarship, Judy Girod, Lois Goodrick, Anne Morse, and Bar- bara Starr. Their applications were sent to A.F.S. in New York for final selection. Anne Morse was select- ed to go to Munich, Germany. Walk together, talk together, O ye peoples of the earth: Then and only then shall ye have peace. By having Gianni in Lebanon and Anne in Munich, we hope a big step has been token toward achiev- ing this slogan of the A.F.S. 77 WLUSLAW 94 , J' TERRY LOWRY Lebanon I.R.L. Their ad- visors were Mr. Way and Mrs. Bennett. The first meeting of the school year was concerned with arranging the seating in our new gymnasium, introducing officers and advisors, and discussing activities for the coming year, An amusing style show was featured at the second meeting with some of the boys displaying some unusual talent in ladies dress apparel. A modified strip tease by com' edian John Craig and a can-can dance highlighted this event. For our third meeting we were privileged to have a foreign exchange student from France talk to us. He proved to be a very interesting speaker. Many interesting facts were revealed as to the relationship between the two countries. Later in the year a tradition was carried on as usual. This was the annual basket- ball game between the faculty and the seniors. Each quarter was shortened by about three minutes and the faculty was given more than enough time outs so they could rest. This rest must not have helped much, for the seniors won by a very comfortable margin. The fifth meeting of the year was concerned with nomination of officers for the coming year. lnstallation of officers was held during the last meeting of the year after which the boys challenged the faculty to a game of softball. The club is composed of past and present library assistants. These girls take a course in librarianship and work in the library one period each day. For this, each girl receives one credit. Each assistant must be recommended by two teachers and have a grade average of a 2 or better, By this method of selection it is obvious that it is an honor to be asked to be on the library staff. The work of the library-typing catalog cards, care of periodicals, filing, preparing new books, taking care of the circulation desk, overdue books and fines-gives valuable experience, The club's money-making proiect this year was selling at a football game and d ce. For the past two years, the club has had money left in its treasury at the end of an the school year. This year the organization will give the library a set of plastic letters for use on the bulletin boards and will contribute one hundred and thirty dollars towards draperies in the library.
