Then there was the time, at the end of a Pep Assembly, when we all waited in silence for our Student Body President, Don Allen, to dismiss us. He was soon found asleep on the hallway heater. Roger Leatherman, our Vice President, has been known never to goof, however, there is that time he got the flags in upside down. Ardee, Student Body Secretary, through nec- essity, finally learned to read and write. Our Treasurer, Bev Hanson, proved herself very capable the first few weeks of school by sending out numerous checks without the signa- ture of our beloved Principal, Mr. Page. But seriously, a great deal of time has been put in by everyone connected with Student Coun- cil and we have tried to make our school ci better school in every way. wing an E L r 'H 1 E 1 P 1 pwff bw: Q .um B. f1'z. At one meeting a French exchange student from Oregon State College spoke to the group and helped prepare us for the State l.R.L. Con- ference at the University of Oregon in Eugene in early March. At the conference the Lebanon IRL, Club represented France in the Model Unit- ed Nations. In the state elections Kent Wells was elected state IRL President for next year. At Christmas, IRL. sent cards to members, parents, and teachers. The Christmas party was held at Bernice Smiths home where gifts were exchanged. The annual picnic was held at the President's home and the members' parents were invited. At this last meeting new officers were installed and pins presented to those members who had earned the most paints during the year. The club is composed of past and present library assistants. These girls take a course in librarian- sh-ip and work in the library one period each day for which they receive one full academic credit. The work of the library assistants ltyping, cata- log cards, care of periodicals, filing, preparing new books, circulation, overdue books and finesi provides valuable experience. The officers of the club are: Lillian Cooper, President, Bernice Smith, Vice President, Janice Croxton, Secretary, Lavina Kietzke, Treasurer. At the circulation desk this year were Judy Mitchell, Penny l-laberling, Barbara Durst, Bar- bara Patterson, Wanda Glaus, Periodicals, Helen Carter and Sherry Pearson. Typists were Pat Jones, Lillian ooper, and Sharon Douglas. Louise Krall was in charge of overdue books, Wanda Glaus, Periodicals, Penny Haberling, statistics, and Judy Mitchell, filing. A worknight was held March T9 in the library to straighten out books and magazines. Most of 80 the members were present and before long had things in good order again. Later refreshments were enioyed by a very tired group of girls. On April iQ, the club went on an all-day field trip to Eugene. Dr. Hintz, the head of the library, welcomed the group and spoke on the great need for trained librarians. On a conducted tour of the University of Oregon Library, the group were shown slides of the library, and visited the ref- erence, curriculum departments, the Oregon and the sound rooms. The Douglas room with its re- cords, listening booths, and listening tables were of special interest. After lunch at the Student Union, the group went to the Eugene High School. The club mem- bers were especially interested in this library be- cause the floor plan resembles the one in the new Lebanon High School Library. Mrs. Hielte, the head librarian, spoke to the group and ans- wered their auestions. Later the members toured the library and its adjoining rooms, and gath- ered some excellent ideas to be used next year in the new High School. The frosh proved to be a hard-fighting group in winning 5 while losing 5 which gave them a 500 average. The freshmen gained the much needed exper- ience in the skills of basketball which will help them to form a better team of future basketeers. The starting team was composed of five fast, rangy boys who, although they didn't have an exceptionally tall man, managed to grab off their share of rebounds in all of the games they played. The starting boys were: at center was Ron Erikson, the tall rangy boy who got most of the team's rebounds, at guards were the speed boys, Mike Blanchat, who was the team's 94 leading scorer, and Gary Brown, who in track averaged about lO.o in running the hundred, which is good, considering he is only a freshman, at forwards were Jim Brande, who started the season slow but came on fast and turned out to be an excellent pivot man, and Dean Kocer, who was slow moving but somehow managed to grab some rebounds, Two other freshmen basketballers were Mike Armstrong and Jim Lamphere, who both played JV basketball, Armstrong also played football and baseball. Lamphere was one of the two top hitters on the baseball team. The frosh showed lots of fight and will be ex- pected to form the basketball teams of the future. 5? J . . Track This year's Warrior track team, coached by Dale Reynolds and his assistant, Evan Richey, made a good record for itself, winning five meets and losing three. Speaking of records, the Lebanon boys were certainly in the groove. They broke 12 school records, nine in the JV and three in Varsity. Two Willamette Valley JV records were toppled by Lebanon boys, and also two district records. The Willamette Relays, held at Salem, opened the track season, Every Lebanon relay team plac- ed. Being in the top five of the lOO schools con- testing was quite an honor. Among the inter-school meets, there was one four-way meet and two triangular meets. ln the four-way, Lebanon placed fourth by a close mar- gin, they placed second in one triangular meet and defeated Corvallis and Sweet Home in the other by an eleven point margin. The thin-clads swept over Stayton, a triumphant 51 points in the lead. Then in turn, they out per- formed Dallas by eight and two-thirds points, and downed Sweet Home twice by 22 points the first time and 35 points the second. Albany proved too much for the Warriors to handle and the Bulldogs won with a margin of ten points. In the district meet Lebanon lagged to sixth place, having a total of 35 9120 points. Also in the Willamette Valley JV meet, they were once again in sixth place having only 22 points to show. Two Warriors, Jon Pattinson and Kent Wilcox, made the grade to the state meet. Pattinson con- tested with the iavelin and shot put, having made new school records with both and a district record of 179 feet with the iavelin. Wilcox ran in the 880 and also set a new school and district re- cord of 2:00.2. UW 2. f sq 3 I jf f f s Q .,, 4 9'- fn A if h Lv .J .1 q Q ' 64 ,..,, 4? gi t 5 V ,xg D -1-iv.
