The year ol i955-l956 has been very actin- for the Science Club, Under the able guidance of our advisors, Mr. Spillrnan and Mrs Lal?c,we, our club has really accom- plished a lot. At the beginning of the year we elected our officers. These were: President, Judy Gunderson, Vice President, Richard Nixon, Secretary, B ll Luaar, Treasurer, Carol Stone, and Representative, Carol Edgnton. The main proiect for this year was the Science Farr. Thrg yggr Lebgngn was very honored to be chosen as the location for this year's fair, Many students spent long, hard hours to make the fair a great success, Due to the cooperation and helptulness of everyone, the fair was quite elaborate. Each individual entry was given special con- sideration. There were rnany students who were not a part ol the Science Club that helped us. Next year we hope we have more entries from Lebanon High. We hope to raise funds tor a trip to Eastern Oregon or the coast the last part of school. Of the boys who turned out for football, only eight of them were seniors, and of the seniors, only four were experienced Iettermen. The returning lettermen were co-captains Roger Wold and Dick White, who played the halfback spots throughout the season. Line lettermen Charles Bachman and Bob Adkins were the other two monogram winners who played tackle and end positions re- spectively. First year seniors to play varsity were Ralph Gibson, quarterback, Rod Crocker, center, Ken Place, fullback, and Don Snyder, end. Both the varsity and the junior varsity teams had to be formed from the small num- ber of players who remained out for the muddy sport. Because of iniuries and guitters, everyone except the freshmen dressed down for the games to make a full team. When Lebanon played North Salem, for example, the Warriors' total strength consisted of 26 players. Although Lebanon lost all of its eight games, the coaches feel that the experience gained by the underclassmen was very rewarding. Outstanding performances were made throughout the season by Dick White on quickie offensive plays, by Rodger Wold with his brick wall defense, and by junior holfback, Roger Leatherman, with his fine job of punting. More successful seasons are expected for the Warriors under the new building program of Coach Richey. Good luck, boys, and keep coming out for practice, win or lose. 87 41 . pl gs 41 ,.,f ,V M' I M--'4 y -If ,.-., Q K ' -.. ,f X Bark Raw, Ddsarv, Grfifh MNH-r AH--yw Cnzwv Gnfmrr MwHor, Earhart, Kuuffvmm, Mc-chais. Coach Murle Wells, who started the sport in Lebanon, led his boys to eight wins from the season's thirteen matches. Besides the high percentage of wins in dual matches, Lebanon also wrestled its way to a third consecutive district championship, Eight boys were sent to the state wrest- ling tournament from Lebanon, four district champions, and four second place winners. The final disrict tally gave Lebanon lO5 points to second place North Salem's 75, After the state finals, however, the score gave North Salem and Lebanon a tie for FIFTH PLACE STATE CHAMWONS. Lebanorfs big threat, Lee Evans, lived up to his record by winning the state champ- ionship at T78 pounds again this year, Lee-'s outstanding record began in his sophomore year when he went the whole season undefeated. In the state finals that year, he was out-pointed in a match which gave him the second place championship. Since that match, Lee has remained undefeated by a high school wrestler. New-comer Dale Tewalt became the cinderella of the team this year. Dale, who first came out for wrestling in January, went on to win first place in district, and second place in the state at T48 pounds. The only two high schools Lebanon was unable to defeat in dual matches this year were orce to Sweet Home and the always strong Klamath Falls team. Sweet Home recovered from their earlier deteat by the Warriors and retaliated with a scoree that won them the Ellds May Day Trophy. This was the same trophy Lebanon had held the two previous years, The team was hurt this year by the lack of experienced runners. Only three return- ing lettermen were boasted, two seniors and one sophomore. The seniors were Ken Place and Richard Baldwin, and the sophomore was Les Stevahn.
