The main proiect of the choir this year was to raise money so as to purchase our new choir robes. They were to cost very close to Si,OOO. Season's tickets were scld to the towns-people in order to raise money towards the robe fund. Also, many of the towns-people and friends ofthe choir donated certain amounts of money. Finally, all the money was collected, and our robes were ordered. The annual Christmas Concert, presented on December 1 Qi, was the first performance in our new robes. The choir walked down the aisle in a processional singing Angels We Have Heard on High. Other numbers sang by the choir were: Rise Up Early, The Holly and the Ivy, I Saw Three Ships, Q Holy Night, and others. Also the traditional song: Twas the Night Before Christmas, was sung. A girls' ensemble consisting of Eloise Crover, lva Seems, Ginger Wilcox, sopranos, Gloria Hartle, Pat Sheythe, Joyce Larvik, second sopranos, Evelyn Crover, lvlardee Groves, Nita Weber, altos, sang a couple numbers. Robert E. Lee was presented Nov. 5. This was the first performance of the choir this year. lt consisted of two scenes, waiting on the Levy, and stage of the Robert E. Lee. The choir sang Robert E. Lee, Deep River, Swanee, and others. Also several solo numbers were presented. The next in line was the productions of the- operetta, H.M.S. Pinafore. I X I fg-.ZW lies ian ay This year the National Thespian Society stepped out and did a play of their own. This play was presented February fifth in the Little Theatre to a small select, but highly enthusiastic audience. The play selected was the prize winning play by Tennessee Williams, the Glass Menagerie. It was done arena style with the audience on all four sides of the acting area. Blackouts by means of remote control lighting supplied the unusual effects required in this play. lt was an unusually difficult play and the small cast gave an almost professional performance. The plot concerned the efforts of a family to escape the trap of a mentally erratic and over possessive mother and find escape to reality. Besides being extremely dramatic and tense the production also offered much comedy relief. Giving truly great performances were Grace Kroker as the mother, Don Gilbert as the son, Sherry McDonald as the crippled daughter, and Carl Schmele as the gentleman caller. The director was Ralph Wood, advisor to Thespians. Lebanon Union High School dramatic audiences will long remember the production of the successful play. lt was a part of the attempt of Thespians to bring quality plays to Lebanon audiences. We started off the year with election of officers. The officers elected were: president, Doug Rhodes, vice- president, Bob Wilson, secretary, Marciel Smith, treasurer, Nita Weber. At our first meeting in November we invited a group of Albany High School students with the idea in mind of helping the form their own l. R. L. group. They now have 'Fai I a very active group and we feel that we helped them start it. We raised money during the year by selling fudge, f autograph books, selling at the Astoria Basketball game, and ii sponsoring a dance afterwards. , Early in December we had a speaker from the Gold N Coast who was studying at O.S.C. Everyone enjoyed his comments and criticisms of the U. S. Part of the members DOLJSSESSDES of the l.R.L. attended a Far West Conference in Corvallis. Five members attended the State I.R.L. Conference in Eugene during the latter part of February. The topic of the conference was As the World Sees Us, Fact and Fancy. The many constructive criticisms of the U.S. as given by foreign exchange students and guest speakers made us realize that we do not yet live in a perfect country. One of the final activities which rounded off our school year was a ioint dance and carnival held at Stayton. This very enjoyable evening helped to bring to an end a very successful year under the able leadership of Earl Gerfen, our advisor. We hope that next year's l.R.L Group will benefit as much as we have in this organization. Back Row: Gilbert, Wray, McDonald, Williams, Duering, Hosking, Clair, Kratzke, Brown, Crocker. NYY X arrioreifes Pep Club has gone through another year and has done pretty well. The group tried several ways of getting up school spirit and were successful. This year was also our Pep Club's lucky year, being able to bring home the yell Contest cup. The first time in our Warriorettes history we had a drill team. During the football games they put on drills during the half. These drills were done in their regular uniforms. The Pep Club's main purpose is to foster school spirit and to encourage a high standard of sportsmanship in our re- lations with other schools. The club is the backbone of the student body cheering section and the members attend all the football and basketbal games at home. This year more support has been giyen to wrestling, baseball and track. Mrs. Dolores Christenson was the club advisor, Barbara Elmer, president, Barbara Galarneau, vice president, Nancy Caldwell, secretary, Judy Barclay, treasurer, and Ruth Duer- ft BARBARA ELMER President ing, attendance recorder. Again the club's membership has enlarged to try and keep pace with the increase of students. Front Row: McVein, Brotherton, Holland, Bachman, Yon. :ICQ U Gscfuaal Cgooihall Looking back over the seoson's record we find the B squad losing all their games. The loss of these games, however, was no indication of the team's future potentials. Five games were played against the following opponents: Corvallis, Albany, Salem, Scio and Sweet Home. ln addition to the regular scheduled games, weekly scrimmage was held with the A squad, Individual team captains were chosen for each game. Many of the players showed to good advantage and will undoubtedly help -the A squad next year. Some of these players are, ends Joe Miller, Don Alien and Dale Tewalt, tackles Bill Parker, Kivel Wilson, Jack Gotchall, guard Bill Winstead, quarter- backs Don Beaton and Benny Henderson, fullbacks Charles Bachrnan and Martin Lovik, defensive center Don Lindsey, and halfback Bud Miller. All the players are to be commended for the enthusiasm and spirit shown through- out the season. This year wrestling has had its most successful year since it was started five years ago under the able leadership of Coach Murle Weils. The team's record as far as wins were concerned was ten out of twelve matches won. The only two matches lost was one to Klamath Falls, this year's state wrestling champs, and one to Albany. The Lebanon matmen later came back and scored an upset victory over Albany to gain revenge and snap a twenty-two match winning streak that the Bulldogs were riding on. The Warrior -grapplers then went on to gain local fame by snatching a district championship, the first district wrestling championship Lebanon had ever won. Of the possible twenty-four berths to the state tournament in district, the Warriors took twelve, six championships and six runner-up berths. The district champs from Lebanon were Ivan Winningham, 106 lbs., Jim Beaton, 124 lbs., Carol Lindsey, 136 Iles., J. D. Griffith, 141 lbs., Lyle Larson, 156 lbs., and Lee Evans, 165 lbs. Those taking second place were Gary Parks, 98 lbs., Bob Durham, 115 lbs., Francis Lee, 124 lbs., Lee Malick, 136 lbs., Melvin Darby, 165 lbs., and Joe Sprague, 177 lbs. These Lebanon boys then went on to give Lebanon state-wide fame by placing our school fifth out of approximately 40 schools represented in the State Wrestling Tourna- ment at Corvallis.. Lebanon was narrowly edged out for fourth place by one point by Roseburg. The Warrior grapplers who placed in the state tournament were, Ivan Winningham who made an excellent showing in the state tournament and placed second in the 106 lb. weight division, ,Lee Evans who lost his first match of the year to defending state champion, a senior from Molalla, by a close margin and gained second place in the 165 lb. weight division, and Joe Sprague who took fourth in the 177 lb. weight division. Lebanon's prospect for one of the best wrestling teams in the state next year are very good. This year only five seniors graduate. Next year should be the year in which Coach Murle Wells will shape up the best wrestling team that Lebanon has ever seen. Back Row, Markuson, Slocum, Rowell, Evans.
