The cast included: Jean McFadden, the new servant girl, Liola Collins, Mora Mc- Laren, cz neighbor woman, Toni Smith, Lord Rintoul, a wealthy landowner, Dennis Huff, Rob Daw, a wayward chap, Bobby Hayes: Gavin Dishart, the Little Minister, Curtis Judd, Margaret Dishart, his mother, Eva Lou Sparks, Bobbie, a gypsy girl, Joyce Bateson, Dr, McQueen, the village physician, James Fite: Sergeant Halliwell Larry G-uinn, Effie, Rob Dow's daughter, Adele Collins, Nanny Webster, on her way to the poorhouse, Beverly Jordan, Many things rappened during rehearsals, like the time they used grass tor the tea party and it would come out the spout ot the teapot. Those elected were: president, Frank Pruitt, I vice president, Bob Guggisbesg, secretary, Barbara Gamberg, A gf., treasurer, Rita Kenyon, librarian, Eilene Kruse, reporter Mil- ' A' dred Grove. Later in the year, Bob Guggisberg resigned and - Gary Shanks was elected to take his place. Several months Y -y later he took the place of Frank Pruitt who also resigned. V One of the first activities of the year was a rally for which the band played. Durnig the fall months members of the band turned out J T' for home games and several out-of-town games. More march- ing was done this year and letters were formed between the halves of the football games. Members of the band were selected to form a pep band GARY SH!-NKS which played for the basketball games. The director of the p,GL,Cisn, pep band was Gary Shanks. During the year the band made short trips to the city grade schools and the Crowfoot grade school to play for the students. Just before Christmas a concert was given which featured marches. A ioint concert combining the band and the Advanced Choir took pace in late April. The featured music of the evening was from the ope'etta, Brigadoon. The band also played Glow Worm, Colonel Bogey, The Holy City, and New Maori. Marching practice began in the spring as scor as the weather would allow. The band performed at the Strawberry Fair parade and the Nay Day ceebration, Several students entered the solo contest l.'l'l'Cll took place early in May. U. H. S. The last orchestra here was in T938 and was under the direction ot Mr. Wayne Gilfry. This orchestra is under the direction ot Mr. Bolobonott. The orchestra this year has been composed of all string instruments, lO violins, l cello, l bass, and l piano. They are also in need of some reed instruments, a few brass, and a tympani. All members of the orchestra are also mem- bers ot the Civic Orchestra. During the past year the orchestra has played for the Lions club, and presented a special Christmas concert. They also played for the Junior class play. The Civic Orchestra presented a concert at the Presbyterian Church, accompanied by the Presbyterian choir. This was an all Bach program. Mr. Boris Sirpo from Lewis and Clark College made a special trip to Lebanon to hear our Civic Orchestra in this program, and commented very highly on the talent of the group. The orchestra toured all of the grade schools and played a regular concert at each school, Some ot the students played solos at their spring concert. All ot the programs pre- sented bythe orchestra consisted ot strictly classical music. Trio was organized in l95l and has been actiue in musical and community programs ever since. They have sung at the Business and Prolessional vVomen's Club, the Oregon Alumni dinner, the annual Christmas Concert, church programs, assemblies, and school functions during the last year. One of their main events ot the year is the music contest at which they earned a l rating last year. The contest will be held in Turner, May IO, this year, They have also appeared an our local radio station several times and sang over K,R.U.L. in Corvallis tor an educational program put on by Lebanon. They sang, The Way You Look Tonightl' and Popcorn Man. The trio is composed of Alice Schmidt, a senior soprano, Marilyn Gilliam, a Junior second soprano, Lois Wing, a Junior alto, and Barbara Gamberg, a Senior and their accompanist. The most noted experience was the Christmas concert held December 17, 1951. They sang Winter Wane derland, Oh Christmas Tree, and Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer. The group was arranged in the shape ot a tree I and by standing at ditterent elevations the tree was quite 'MZ' high and looked very nice.There was also a girls' ensemble which included: sopranos, Marian Brow, Beverly Zolnowski, second sopranos, Iva Seems, Darlene Clair, Minnie Rowton, altos, Donna Andross, Bonnie Elmer, and Charlotte Pierce. The accompanist was Marilyn Williams. They sang Virgin Slumber Song, and U32 Feet and 8 Little Tails. This group attends classes every other day and had study hall while Beginners' Glee was having its class. His assistant was Secretary-treas urer James Olaus. The Fire Squad is made up at Junior and Senior boys who are interested in tire lighting and who have an academic rating of 3 or better. This year's squad has T3 veteran members back from last year. They are Luther Baggett, Dean Beck, Duane Christensen, Howard Christensen, Jimmy Glaus, Jimmy Jacobsen, Bob McCracken, Harvey Rose, Johnny Stolsig, Bill Temple, Jim Whitmore, Roland Wilson, and Jerry Young. New members of the squad are Kirby Avrit, Don Chamberlain, and Burl Lott. Mr. Parham, acting as advisor, assigns each member a post at the beginning ot the school year and assists the boys in carrying out the tire drills.. Each drill is timed to ascertain the time needed to clear the building of its occupants. The record time tor the year was l minute and 20 seconds. The duties of the tire squad are to extinguish or control a tire until the city fire department arrives, also to assist the students from the building by directing them to the nearest exit in an orderly manner. During the year some of the activities were basketball tournaments, swimming play-days, softball play-days. Ten points are earned from any tournament play-doy throughout the year. Fifty points are required for member- ship in the club, and when l5O points have been earned, the G. A. A. swcater and the large L may be purchased. A gold pen is awarded for 200 points. A member must make 50 points a year to remain in the club. Pcints can be earned A. A. activities which include basketball, volleyball, horseback bowling, skiing, baseball, along with many others. The efficiency of the library depends entirely upon the way the assistants carry out various duties assigned to them at the beginning of the year by Mrs. Burns. Many alumni members have found success in the the- ater, radio, and screen. Leading the group through a successful year were Curtis Judd, wielding the gavel of the president, Larry Ouinn serving as vice president, Beverly Jordan recording the minutes of the meetings as secretary, Rita Kenyon guarding the money-bag as treasurer, Cynthia Rust keeping a file of the business as clerk, and last but not least, the advisor, Mr. Ralph Wood who directs all plays. Membership consists of any student interested in dramat- ics, however before entering the society you must have earned CURTIS JUDD a necessary ten points. The club motto is Act well your president part, there all the honor lies. This year a plaque has been made upon which will be engraved the names of the best Thespian boy and girl of the year. Letters were given to deserving members. This award was determined by the point system. Thespians were quite active during the year. They sold at games, held a white elephant auction, attended several plays at neighboring schools and colleges, and had several potluck dinners. The money earned financed the annual banquet held at the close of the year. Three members, accompanied by Mr. Wood, attended the dramatics conference in Eugene on February 8th and Qth. The purpose of the club is to promote better Thinking and more reliability among students so they will be better qualified to enter o vocational field after gradu- ation. 'FHM Squad Yell fenders The l95l-52 yell leaders had a difficult time getting together. The girls Turned out first. They tried out in front of the Pep Club where a number of them were eliminated, then the remaining candidates performed before the student body. Ballots were dis- tributed in the 6th period classes and the students voted an their yell leaders for the year. The outcome of this vote was: Yell Queen: Agnes Backman, a Senior, Dorothy Frank, a Senior, and Marilyn Gilliam, a Junior. This year the fall season was as rainy as ever and the football players and yell leaders did their very best the entire season. The three girls worked out some very good routines. Football passed into basketball and it soon came time for the iamboree at Sweet Home. Two fellows, Jerry Simi and Dick Johnson, came out to ioin the squad then. The boys did very well at catching on to the routines. During the middle of the season the students were becoming downhearted about losing so many games. The yell squad had a little trouble raising the school spirits but they took some old yells and gave them different actions and made snapper yells from them. The Warriors' lone victory was over their rival, Sweet Home, T3-7. This year's captain was Richard Campbell who was the team's most outstanding player. He won the KGAL-Cascades Plywood award for being the most inspirational player. Richard was elected for this honor by his teammates. The coaches for the year were, head coach, George Van Pelt, and backfield coach, Bob Cane. Malcolm McBride led the team with the most field goals, 34, and the most total poins, 82. Bob Guggisberg had he best average from the free throw line, netting I3 for 23, an average of 565. You could hardly say it was an unfavorable season as they only played two games and so didn't get much experience or chance to win games. We hope that next year's team will turn out better than this year's team, We are sure that Mr. Anderson can and will coach a good Frosh team next year. The team had hard luck all along the line as they fell before all of the teams they met. The 8th grade played Albany once and Dallas twice to complete their season's schedule. Britton, Charles Back' Members of the team were Frank Brown, Kermit Jenson, Dick man, Cleve Pruitt, Dick Jungworth, Bob Adkins, John Adkins, Bob Nicholas, and Don Snyder. Bob Adkins was high point man for the Papooses. Coach Anderson will be expecting a more seasoned group of players next year, as the 8th grade squad will have a year of basketball training behind them. Next year we will have only three returning lettermen, third baseman, Christie Mess- mer, right fielder, Jim Saxton, and pitcher, Don Schaefer. Our lineup for this year was: catcher, Johnny Stolsig, pitchers, Don Schaefer, Wayne Klavano, and Rich Campbell, first base, Clarence Primasing, second base, Gene Stewart, third base, Christie Messmer, shortstop, captain, Wayne Klavano, outfielders, Rich Campbell, Dean Beck, Jim Saxton, Tom Canoga, and Bill Ballheim. Also seeing con- siderable action during the year were Donnie Carroll, Kenneth Kirkelie, and Bennie Mon- roe. Outstanding hitters for the year were Stolsig, Campbell, and Beck. The boys were coached by Bob Kane in his first year here. Several games were lost by only one or two runs. Compting for the Warriors were: co-captains Doug Nesbitt and Bob Caldwell in the high hurdles, Nesbitt and Caldwell, along with Homer McKean and Malcolm Mc- Bride in the low hurdles, Co-captain Jim Whitmore, McKean, .lim Glaus and Norman Vandiverr, an Albany transfer, in the lOO- and 220-yard dashes, Dave Standley, Victor Dixon, and Dale Ackeret in the 440, David Blacketer a Portland transfer, and Vernon Gott in the half mile. Blacketer also ran the mile. In the field events were Victor Dixon, Richard Pierce, Bill CCarroll, and Earl Hibbert, throwing the discus was Vandiver, Nesbitt, Standley and Griffith threw the iavelin, Glaus, the two Ford brotherrs, Jack and Del, and David Stitt were in the pole vault de- partment, Griffith, Dixon, and Bartrum were the high iumpers, Dixon, McBride and Newman were in charge of the broad iumping positions.
