Members are chosen by Mrs. Burns, librarian and club aavisor, for their intelligence, dependability, and efficiency, ard who have been recommended by 'wo teachers. Other irrportant auaitfications are a pleasirg personality and the ability to meet students. The purpose of this club is to learn fundamentals of librarianship. Those students chosen as members are to serve as li' brary assistants. The Library Club had eighteen active members: eacli had definite duties. Joan Baker had charge of the periodif cats, Shirley Heath took over library statistics and displays. and Phyllis Sprague had charge of overdue books and fines. The typists were Dolph Lundholrn, Peggy Graham, Donna Plymale, Peggy Poss, Martha Samla, Caryl Xnfilson, and Dorothea Lebahn. The latter also did all filing of catalog carrls. The circulation desk vvas cared for by Norma Carroll, Lois Bremer, Shirley For- , , ,N auer, Maxine Gott, Barbara Lott, Earletta Saxton, and Shirley Heath one girl foi each period The club went on ct field trip to Salem in April, and vvhile there visited the Salem High School Library, the Oregon State Library and the State Capitol. 76 Y 799' C lfiw C jirfc up 05 fl qyfmp uf Qfj sffrmmr girl f T'f'g f1'f rl ,K ,' fm? 1 ' 1 'Uf r.wfiN'15, U'-SNC'w'g Ve .ff1'fzm, vfris, hupwg kr-fy, the 'YEflC,1VNf,'K ffgnir rg mf mug ' .mr U3 IJ , fi. Undaunted bythe dim pros- pects, they won fourteen games and lost nine ol a twenty-three game schedule. The squad was made up forthe most part of last year's ninth grade basketball team. Line- up tor the season: Bill Andres, Dick Andres, Dean Beck, Richard Campbell, Jim Jacob- son, Wayne Klavano, Doug Nesbitt, Darrell Richard, Dean Smith, Gene Stewart, and Carl Swanson. The Braves opened their season against the Willamette High B squad at Eugene, losing by a score of 33-26. In a later game played with the same team the Braves swamped them 50-l7 Among their string ol scalps were victories over the Shedd A squad, the Albany Pups, and the Salem Bees They lost to such teams as the Cor- vallis B squad and University l-ligh's B team. The leading scorer tor the season was guard Dean Smith with l58 points. Close behind and pushing all the way was Wayne Klavano, another guard, scoring l46 counters, Among the other high scorers were Carl Swanson, lO7, and Richard Camp- bell, 83, guard and forward. Next year should see some of these boys on the A squad to fill the gaps left by senior graduation. Experience gained this year will make them top contenders.
