Now, get those voices out so they hear everything in the back rowl Places for first act! - OK. - Lights A Curtain! That's it - curtain is up on the T948 Senior play, Miss Jimmy. A big night for ten hardworking Senior class members and for a capacity audience. February 26 was the date for this successful three-act comedy centered around a group of college girls attending Brier Mountain College for Women, who discover a proverbial sofa snake in their dormitory room one evening - a man! This brave young gentleman, in order not to be discovered in these sacred surroundings into which he was sent by fraternity brothers, takes onthe disguise of a girl, hence the title of Miss Jimmy. Preparations for this annual event started six weeks before the proposed date of presentation with tryouts and casting. The turnout of girls for tryouts was wonderful, but the fellas must have been a little shy for their representation was comparatively small. After two days of reading this part and that part, the notice of the cast went up on the bulletin board reading as follows: Louise, Anne Swanson, Flo, Elizabeth Waddell, Doris, Irma Crockett, Kitty, Mariorie Kimble, Harriet, Velma Hinman, Droopy, Harry Drapela, Jimmy, J. T, Hamilton, Miss Watkins, Lucille Baertlein, and Professor Frazier, Dean John- son. Then the real work started A five and a half weeks of nightly rehearsals. Reading, blocking, memorizing, painting, costuming, collecting furniture and hand props, and the many other duties which have to be done was the program in Room 9 and on the stage for six weeks during January and February. One of the rehearsal highlights took place a couple of Sundays before presentation when the cast held a potluck dinner in the Home Ec. building between the afternoon and evening rehearsals. The food which was brought out was fit for the opening night cast of the biggest production on Broadway. This first dramatic experience for the class of '48 ended with the cries of well done and they were well deserved. 30 ...J-J,, 0 4525 ' f .J E... Chapter enioyed a very successful year under their able advisor Miss Schifferer, Home Economics instructor. At the first meeting of the club on October l4, i947, the following officers were elected: Mary Waddell, president, Betty Alley, vice president, La Vonne Connet, secretary, Elaine Ouggisberg, treasurer, Betty Lindley, reporter, and Maxine Alley, historian, Charlotte Tampke was nominated for a state office and Jacquie Witmire was elected delegate to Pendleton. Mrs. Alley was the Chapter Mother for the year. Many activities were participated in during the year. A Christmas party was given December I7 in the Home Econ- , ' ' ,E omics building. At the party the girls exchanged gifts and went caroling at the hospital. A group of girls served coffee llfflf he 1 Q and doughnuts at the Smith Kid's Christmas Party for the Kiwanis Club. Another group of girls decorated the class room doors with holly before the Christmas holidays. The club's chief way of making money was selling hotdogs in the hails one day a week, every other week. The chapter also sponsored a booth at the O. A. A. Carnival in which more hotdogs were said. The annual picnic at Silver Creek lialls is being planned for sometime in May May the Future l-lomemakers of America carry on next year and be as successful and as useful as this year. T4, the season at last came to an end. It wasn't exactly an outstanding season if you merely take into account the games won and lost, but there is a lot more to a football season than this, for two of our games were lost in the last minute of the contest and it takes a very good team to do this. We also took the northern division of our league, but lost to University High in the play-off. Lebanon started the season with an I8 to 8 win over Newport. Next we took Molalla 7 to O. Then came the big week, the game with Albany. The Warriors scored early in the first quarter to put us out in front 7 to O, but Albany came back at us and made their touchdown but failed to make the extra point, So the game went on into the second half. In fact we led 7 to 6 until the last 45 seconds of the game when Albany made a second touchdown. Next on our schedule was Corvallis. Riddled with many iniuries, it was no surprise that we lost that one. We then journeyed to Toledo for the game that was played in the mudflats. The game ended in a O to O tie. Redmond was next and with it was another of those hard to take defeats. They scored in the last minute and 20 seconds of the contest to break a 6 to 6 deadlock and win l3 to 6. Lettermen for the past season are as follows: Jim Fryrear who will be a four year letterman on the team next year, Bob Osterman who is a promising half for the coming year, Jack Evans, although he suffered many injuries, earned his letter at half, Don McGourty made the traveling squad at half his first year out at Lebanon, Joe Abbott made the squad his first year after being a manager the year before, Gene Tanner did a very good iob of calling plays at the position of quarterback, Don Hebert, 75 lllllllillll although very short, made a tough fullback for the opposing teams, Sid Bartels qualified for half towards the end of the season, Stan Porter will be a promising guard for next season, husky Al Frum will be another bulwark in the backfield to help take the penant next year, Clare Cotter, one of the three that made the first team on the Tri-County, will be one of our best backs again next year, Cecial Benshoof, Ken Whitmire and Bob Miles all graduating this year, played wonderful games for their last season to earn their letters deservingly, Jack Haynes, coming out for his first year, made his letter playing the qualifying time, Les Wells made a very good showing as an end this year although he played half last year, Jerry Bartels, a wiry little end, received his letter for the second consecutive time, Dick Duncan, a tackle, will be the other four-year letterman, Dick Haughton is the second man to be elected on the Tri-County team and if you have seen him play you know why the opponent doesn't get up when he hits him, Lloyd White played a very nice season for being his last, as he is graduating, Don Hostetler was a mean guy at the center post and helped the line quite a bit, Bob Henkle is the third man to be selected on the Tri-County and the only one to be granted the privilege of playing on the Shrine All-Star team along with 32 other hand picked boys from all over the state, which is quite a privilege for any boy, J. T. Hamilton played brilliant ball at the end position, both offensively and defensively, Wally Campbell was another of those hefty guards we had and he will be back next year too, and Dick Gallagher, who made his showing two seasons ago on the B eauad as many of the others did, came back this season to dish out some more grief for the opponents. 76 HOSTETLER BENSHOOF WHITE PORTER HAYNES DUNCAN EVANS OSTERMAN ABBOTT McGOURTY Cfkit-APISELL WELLS ANTHONY MILES S. Although the year was not too successful, if success is counted in games won, the year was successful in considering the experience and playing skill developed by these boys. The Rapooses played five games, two each with Sweet l-lame and Albany, and one with Corvallis. All of these games were lost. Severai boys were outstanding and should prove to be assets to Lebanon's future football teams. In the line we have Anthony, playing tackle, who was strong on both detense and offense. Marshall Swink, the other tackle, was a bulwarlc on all offensive olays. Ken Gallagher was an excellent defensive end. Sammy Gilbert was a very capabie end on all offensive plays. Also showing promise at defensive end was Sum- mers. Both of the Bovee twins were looking good in there, one played guard, the other center. Rich Cox was considered a fine backfield man. Playing right half he was our hardest running backfield man. Cox made two of the three touchdowns against opposi- tion this year Ken Gallagher made the other on an intercepted pass. Norm Pemberton, hard driving fullbaclx, played a very consistant game. Royce Howard and Ronnie Frum played alternating auarterback. At left half were Rodney Bean, a fine passer, and Glen Spence, deceptive runner. Marvin Zurcher, playing defensive halfback, and Jack Michelson at guard also deserve mention. Witli the experience gained through tough, bruising play, these boys should do well an the varsity in years to come. 77 sa In my BBN ! tilt' X 1' Brick RUN.
