All ashore that are going ashore. This in 1955, the L.H.S. '59 began her maiden voyage-a four year voyage which was to take her over many an exciting sea. The class of '59 was the first to cross the gang plank into the newly built and chastened institution of learning. The first lap of our journey was one filled with excitement and apprehension because it was the sea of in- experience which we were crossing. Algebra, Latin, and seasickness were three of the problems most common to those of us aboard. Our pilots for this part of our tour were able and experienced ones who had ridden the waves of knowledge before: Mrs. Margaret Johnson, Mrs. Clark Harrison, Mr. Hugh P. Evans, Mr. George Fuller, Mr. Charles LeMay, Mr. Ray Farley, Mrs. Miles McMillan. and Mrs. C. M. Wood. james Tomlinson was our Captain assisted by Kay Arrington, First Mate, Fay Arrington, Purserg and George Lowery, Chief Petty Officer. By the time the second lap of our journey had begun, we had become accustomed to the rhythm of the waves. This was the year our football team was victorious at the Tobacco Bowl. Our Latin guide books be- came more and more useful. After two years in tourist class we were looking forward to upper class accom- modations. Our third lap was truly an exciting one. To lead us through this unexplored sea we elected as our able pilots George Lowery, jimmy Byrd, Geneva Fuller, Kay Arrington, Lynn Nokes and Kenny Berry. Recreation and hard work on deck paid off with the success of our junior and Senior Reception and the junior play Dino , directed by Mrs. Walter Fowler with Larry Bucy in the lead. Moving to first class made our fourth lap the most memorable part of the voyage. This was the year Mr. Phillips joined our tour as Overseer. Leading our crew were George Lowery, Ed Lasater, Geneva Johnston, james Tomlinson, jerry Bogle and Kai Grissim. Planning for our Senior Trip was one of the activities in which everyone participated. As the time to dock nears, we look back over our four year voyage with happy remembrances and a touch of sadness. We feel that the knowledge we have acquired will assist us as we embark on the- even vaster Sea of Life. As we flip through the pages of our passport we know that it is truly filled with memories.
