Then one day these same students are abruptly awakened from their frivolous sum- mer reveries, and they become fully aware of the brilliant colors around them. These colors are accompanied by softer hues and even shadows of the merging society at L.H.S. This society, throughout its development and ultimate maturity, provides the basis on which each student, accord- ing to his will, increases his knowledge, his wisdom, and his growth as a responsible individual. So let us enter to- gether once more as we relive the 1967-68 school year. The teachers, counselors, principals and other members of Lebanon High’s adminis- tration are here for that purpose. With their devotion and careful instruction, the student daily prepares himself for the responsibilities awaiting him, as citizens, parents, and leaders. The Lebanon High School student body and faculty is a closely knit group of individuals who depend upon each other for entertainment, enlightening discussions, and friendship. In the classroom students can depend upon their teachers for the competence and concern that is so vital to the formative mind. G. B. The walls echoed with exuberant chatter issuing from the myriads of eighth-graders who antici- pated a year of new experiences. The freshmen remained subdued and dignified. Sophomores contemplated the future years of high school. They were aware of having reached the midpoint of their high school career. Juniors timidly whispered about chemistry, American history, and the Prom. From the depths of this confusion there arose a sigh mingled with tones of relief, dread, and sadness. The Seniors had taken their positions on the front rows of the auditorium. This was symbolic of the year they were embarking upon. The past pressed behind them while an invisible future loomed ahead. Lebanon High School offers a variety of clubs from which the students can choose. It is through these organizations that they can receive spiritual, physical, and mental guidance. Also these clubs offer a form of relaxation in the weeks routine. They tend to create an atmosphere which help the students unwind and better prepare themselves for their daily scholastic work. With this scene, the crowd bursts forth in exultation, winter sets in, the sports move indoors with the fast paced basketball games. The thumping of the ball down the court causes a warm and excited sense to flow over the spectators. Spring finally moves in, bringing the baseball and track teams to display a glory all their own. It is these athletics, teaching us the value of fairness and sportsmanship, that creates a well rounded student and leader. With the skillful training of our coaches and the excellent teamwork of our boys we earned the title for the second Consecutive year. The team got off to a great start on September 1 by defeating Abingdon 26-0. Althougu we lost to Patrick Henry and Tazewell, the Pioneers bounced back to claim a 47-44 victory over Honaker and a fourteen point win over Pocahontas. By downing Castlewood with a 48-0, our boys then went on to break the tie for first place in the district by giving St. Paul their first loss with a 39-6 score. The final games with Garden, Holston, and Hurley swept the team into an undisputed championship. So it is to the DISTRICT CHAMPS we give our thanks for their part in making this a year to be remembered. LEBANON PIONEERS, we salute you. 80 Varsity Football Cheerleaders Mary Sue Gilmer, Arleen Parris, Becky Settle, Wanda Tignor, Teresa Jenks, Debby Bolling, Anna Hendrickson. J.V. When such an hour comes and has gone, the memory of the warmth and glam- our of the occasion will linger throughout adulthood. Human nature tends to allow individuals to re- member the past in terms of a beautiful fairy-tale. The happiest memories of days at Lebanon High School will not be the routine, mediocre affairs of an average day, but students will fondly recall the en- chanting moments spent in quest of social fulfillment. No one dared to completely accept the signifi- cance of this event, but a feverish sparkle in the eyes of students clad in caps and gowns belied a certain knowledge of fate’s mysterious ways. For the Class of 1968, the walls echoed not with the voices of the crowd, but the walls resounded with vagrant voices of the past. Their eyes did not behold bright lights and flowered bonnets. Their minds con- jured visions of the years behind. The night of gradua- tion might aptly be called the “Hour of Summation” in which twelve years were crowded into the scope of several minutes. ■ 106 107 108 , 109 Graduation . . . no Advertising I Each year our annual is dependent upon the support of merchants, citizens, businessmen and industries in the area. Because of their generosity, once again we are able to preserve the memories of the 1967—68 school year. We sincerely wish to thank all who were so kind to make contributions toward this cause. Through them we can look back in future years and recall the memories held in this book. Without the help of each one, the printing of our annual would not have been possible.
