I I I HOME Through days of joy and sadness, through disappointment and success, we remember the love and understanding of our parents. Our deep appreciation is expressed to our parents who have been our guiding lights throughout our school life. SCHOOL Our school life has been inspired by our teachers who have shown patience, a willingness to help, and a never -failing confidence in us. Our Superintendent, the School Board, and the Board of Supervisors have worked together faith- fully to make our school life profitable. CHURCH Through our churches, the students of Lebanon High have found a spiritual guidance. This guidance has been much help in developing the correct attitudes and relationships, not only in school but in our everyday living. The able leaders of our churches have challenged us to set our goals in life high and have in- spired us to lay a solid foundation upon which to build our lives, spiritually and morally. Mr. George Ben Whited, B.A. Principal In the five years that Mr . G. B. Whited has served as our principal, he has led our school through a rapid increase in en- rollment and the process of changing from the eleven -year to the twelve -year school system, as well as the change in the physical environment by means of additions and improvements. He has inspired us to keep pace with the great strides in curriculum building, student activities, and athletic competit- ion. At all times he has strived to give the students the very best of everything. The faculty, student body, and patrons are indebted to Mr. Whited for the fine contribution he has made to the school through his years of leadership at Lebanon High School. ADMINISTRATION 14 The capable and attractive secretary of Lebanon High, Miss Sue Holmes, is a 1957 graduate. In a cooperative and pleasing manner, she has performed her tasks not only for the administration and faculty, but for the students as well. Mr. B. O. Porterfield is serving his second year as assistant principal of Le- banon High School . He has faithfully executed his duties in an efficient and understanding way. In addition to his other duites, Mr. Por- terfield teaches science and history, and he has been very helpful in the Guidance De- partment. Miss Sue Holmes School Secretary i Mr. B. O. The students and faculty have enjoyed the fine meals served in the cafe- teria this year. The custodians of our school are Mr. and Mrs. Vern- ice Price. To them the stu- dents are grateful for their endless, day-to-day labor in keeping our school as clean as possible. This group of bus drivers wait for the 3:15 bell. A great number of our students ride buses to school each day and they are appreciative for the patience and tolerence shown by the bus drivers. 19 939 e u The Senior class of 1959 entered school in September as students who had almost reached the last rung of the ladder leading up to high school graduation. Thankful for this and with a prayer to God in each of our hearts for guidance, a resolution was made to strive to hold fast to the school motto, Forward, Always Forward. Events of the past year such as the Senior play. Homecoming, sports events, trips and even classes have instilled in the heart of each Senior memories which will be cherished forever. The class chose the white carnation as their flower. Black and white represented the class colors. The inspiring motto chosen by the class read; May honor, strength, and wisdom pace us mile by mile. In leaving L. H. S., the class wishes to thank all the teachers who so freely offered guidance in classes and extracurricular activities. Deep- est appreciations and many fond farewells are bid to the Senior class sponsors, Mrs. James Gilmer and Mrs. Eugene Vicars who so ably guided the footsteps of each Senior this year. JUNIORS CLASS OFFICERS First row: Charles vVright, President, Don Campbell, Vice-President. Second row: Larry Hall, Treasurer, Brenda Childress, Secretary. Sponsor Miss Biggs Due to the fact that our school is in the process of completing the transfer from the eleven to twelve year school system, the Junior Class is one of the smallest in the high school ' s history. Several members are transfer students from schools in other parts of the state and from other states. As a money-raising project, the Juniors sold popcorn during the lunch period. The class members used this money for a class activity at the end of school, when they met informally to en- joy the fellowship of one another in their last meeting as the Junior Class of 1959. As the Junior Class is small, this class was selected this year to represent the underclassmen in the traditional ob- servance of Rat Week. During the week the Sophomores honored their Senior polyannas and obeyed the wishes of the 1959 graduating class. The high- light of the week was a program given for the Senior class. Star Dust was the theme chosen for the Sophomore Class party which was held in March. Beneath a mass of blue and silver stars, the boys and girls, dressed in semi-formal attire, enjoyed dancing and the friendly atmosphere. Sue Howard was chosen Queen of the class party and My rl Allen was selected to reign as King. Honeywell (Bobby Chafin) explains the UmbelliusBirdto an adoring Gus (Janice Tay- lor). The Little Dog Laughed, ac- cording to an old rhyme, to see such sport. But Wilmer Robins, Norma McCloud, Gregg Finney, and the little dog Pandy, never saw such UNUSUAL sport. The Little Dog Laughed, a three-act comedy drama- | tizing the story of Laurie Huntington, a pretty sophomore majoring in psychology, was the play presented by the Sen- ior Class, May 7-8, 1959. The play, written by Vera and Ken Tarpley, presented a once normal family, which was suddenly changed by their j daughter who insisted that they seek their energy peaks by ' taking their temperatures every hour, taking word associ- i ation tests and throwing the entire neighborhood into a tur- , moil by her Zombroski Ink Blot test. I The cast included Sandra Jones as Laurie Huntington, a ( college sophomore; Bob Bausell as Sidney Huntington, her ' father; Betty Nipper, as Martha Huntington, her mother; , David Fuller as Wally, her brother; Janice Taylor as Gus Gustavesky, the maid; Jane Campbell as Joan Wood, Wally ' s one -and-only; Walter Hubble as Ted Wood, Sid ' s competitor in usedcars;Shirley Howard as Lillian Wood, Joan ' s mother; Roger Jessee as Mark Bradford, Joan ' s cousin; Bobby Chafin as Horatio P. Honeywell, a bird fancier and taxidermist; and other members of the cast included guests at Martha ' s tea (Rachel Harmon, Doris Jessee, Georgianne Robinson, Karen Crumbaker, and Connie Powers) and additional pantomime passers-by. Mrs. James Gilmer and Mrs. Louella Vicars directed the play. It was made a big success by the participation of all the Seniors. The tea ladies : Amelia Dennis (Georgianne Robinson); Caroline Blakesly (Doris Jessee); Grace Schoenbeck (Rachel Harmon); Walola j Breckenridge (Karen Crumbaker); and Tessie i Brown (Connie Powers). Rachel Harmon, Senior Class president, wel- comes the Seniors and guests to their annual banquet. SENIOR BANQUET ' ‘1. AND PROM The theme of the Senior Banquet was Hitch Your Wagon to A Star.
