CLASS PROPHECY Hi Jackie, come on in and make yourself at home; I ' ll be with you in just a moment. By the way, I have just been rambling through some of my old school books and look what I found — our ' 47 annual. Time really flies. It doesn ' t seem like five years, much less ten, since we were all seated on the stage that June night with caps and gowns on and those lights overhead sending down as much heat as the sun, just hoping the next minute would break the suspense. Yes, ten years ago, and aren ' t our clothes funny looking and our hair-do ' s? Yes, they sure are, Peggy, and just look at these pic- tures of our class. We were certainly a distinguished looking group, weren ' t we? Oh! Here ' s a pictu re of Bob Cox, and I believe he has recently purchased the LAZY-X RANCH in Sleepy Hollow, Wyoming. I also understand that Bill Mercer is foreman and Arnold Robinson is in charge of trucking. Yes, and I hear that Mary Katharine Settle has been the recent successor to the position of senior English and history teacher at Lebanon Hi. Guess what? The manager of THE OLD HANSON- VILLE FARM now is no other than Henry Grady Pruner, and his leisure time is spent coaching the Lebanon All- Star Independent Team. Isn ' t this picture of Emma Jean Ferguson good? Where is she now? She is employed as private secretary to the Massengill Corporation. Here ' s Earl Smith, and I read in the newspaper not long ago where he had broken all speed records in his Trans-Atlantic flights to England. During my visit home last month, I dined at Lebanon ' s new hash house, THE GREASY SPOON. You ' ll never guess who the owner is! Yes, Jack Kinder and starring in his floor-show are Denton Farmer, bubble dancer; Aneva and Trula Stoots, torch-singers; and his Jazzy-Jivey band leader is none other than Tommy Munsey. Peggy, have you heard about Gene Snead? He is the proud owner of a flourishing chain of movie theaters. He has employed many of our old classmates. Bernard Easterly is general manager; Jane Ella Puckett holds the important position of chief stenographer and her assistant is Beatrice Hawkins. A. G. Cumbow has just opened his new funeral home. They say he is very happy with his work, because his patients never complain. Did you know that Lebanon is now the scene of a new Chevrolet Garage and the distinguished owner is Don Castle, but Don finds time for his politics along with his busy hours as head-man. It seems that the mistress (Kitty Thomas) is very busy tacking the p ' s and q ' s on Junior and Susie. Don has employed Sebern Phelps as his book- keeper and finds him very efficient. There must be competition in Lebanon, Jackie, because Billie Fields is also owner of the new Ford Garage, but it seems that Billie doesn ' t have as hard a time with his competition as his wife (Geraldine Pratt) has with Billie, Jr., according to the last letter that I received from Geraldine. Junior must be a real case, but I guess boys will be boys. Bobby Mutter is employed at Bill ' s as an expert mechanic and Rachel Duty as secretary and book- keeper. Lola Mae Farmer and Clarice Fogleman are joint owners of a very prosperous beauty parlor, THE KINK AND KURL. Here ' s Ta-Ta Musick, the great philosopher of L. H. S., and have you heard about the fast one he pulled about three months ago? He was all ready to practice dentistry, it was thought, when he popped the question to that cute little brunette and now he ' s just coming back down to earth. His secretary will be none other than Thelma Faulkner. Elizabeth Helton is a second ' Dorothy Dix ' of the old days, answering questions of love, marriage, and divorce. Can you imagine Sherman Duff ever achieving his goal? But I hear that his hospital has just been completed in Belfast. His private secretary is Gussie Mutter; book- keeper, Dorothy Snead; and his staff of nurses consists of many ' 47 graduates — Sarah Lou Buckles, Verna Camp- bell, Louise Monk, Beulah Mae Litton, Clara Garrett, Eliza- beth Rasnake, Rosa Helton and Billie Dove Saddler. Oh, yes, Betsy Jean Clark is laboratory technician. Here ' s the smiling countenance of Elizabeth Fogleman and Jean Munsey who are now famous designers of Fifth Avenue. My, my, here ' s Paul Litton ' s picture! Which reminds me that he recently secured presidency of New York ' s newest repair company: YOU BREAK ' EM! WE FIX ' EM! INC. His very efficient vice-president is Edd Mays and included in his staff of experts are our old classmates, J. G. Garrett, Junior Nunley and R. A. White. I understand that Beulah Boardwine and Anna Ruth Dorton are modeling clothes for Mademoiselle now. Remember Donal Breeding? He is publisher of Leb- anon ' s widely read daily newspaper, which sees all, knows all and tells nothing. Jack Harris is the successful editor and Lexie Robinson is his excellent assistant. Here ' s Leola Poston and Eileen Johnson. Leola is now assistant photographer for Life Magazine and Eileen has just finished her book titled, HOW TO WIN YOUR MAN. Have you heard about the club for bachelor girls that has been recently organized in Lebanon by Nell Purcell and Louise Monk? It seems to be very prosperous and popular. Guess what? Sonny Taylor has reached the rank of Major-General in the U. S. Army and has been appointed assistant to the Chief of Staff. Jackie, here are the pictures of Betty Jo McCloud, Thelma Castle, and Alma Robinson who I hear are very busy housewives, and did you know that Marianna Snead, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Snead (Junella Boardwine) won first prize in the All-American Beautiful Child Contest? They say she ' s a darling little blonde. I guess you have heard who solved New York ' s baffling murder case. Our old classmate. Gene lessee, who is now a private investigator. Have you read Mary Ellen Cox ' s latest novel, THE LEAP TO LOVE? They say it is very enlightening and revealing. Metropolitan Opera ' s newest star is Eula Carol Gray. Her soprano voice is causing the critics to swoon. I hear that Conal Breeding is Professor of Engineering at a large university in the west, and that his students are becoming skilled in a number of arts!! Did you know that Sammy Ketron, who is now a pharmacist, has discovered the most effective stimulant for all aches and pains? They say you ask for it by the name of ' CURE-or-KILL ' . My goodness, Jackie, look what time it is. We had better hurry if we are going to tell the Spanish Club of our experiences as interpreters in South America. Well, come on, let ' s go.
