This award is presented hy the DAR to the Senior girl who is ehosen as the representative of her school. This year's winner is Martha Christian. The Prom, May Festival, Vespers, Christmas Play, numerous convocations, and the mixers held in the Dugout add to our enjoyment of the school year. Every day at school brings new experiences, a variety of little episodes and happenings that adds zest to modern education and keeps us on our toes in anticipation as to what the future may hold for us. Lehanon's Fighting Tigers lived up to their name this year as they fought every inch of the way to clinch the Sectional crown for the first time in hve years. The spirit of these hlark and gold clad hoys was exceptional as they fought desperately to overpower the tough Lafayette jefferson Bronchos in the Regional, hut the powerful northern neighf hors outlasretl theni 45 to 37, The Tigers' regular season was a rather poor one on paper with a six and twelve record, hut Coach Xkillblllillhh hoys didn't give up in any one ol' the eighteen encounters and gave some of the state's hest teanis a niighty good run. Toward the end of the season the Tigers improved amazingly and went into the tourney play a determined teani. Besides the Sectional victory. the quintet also won the Crawfordsville Holiday Tourney hy overpowering l rankI'ort and a rugged Michigan City live, each in an overtime game. 1948 Cedars Page Sixtyfonc CUBS The 1948 Cubs, under the direction of Coach Doc Heath, proved to be a team to watch in the future. Witli a fair season of 6 and 8 these fighting little Tigers downed such powerhouses as Lapel, Rossville, and Crawfordsville. A close scoring duel between John Graham, lanky forwardfeenter, and Ronnie Pea' body, husky little forward, was well worth watching as the boys ended 2 points apart with john in the lead 73171. The squad was comprised mostly of Freshmen and Sophomores. FRESHMEN Yca! Rah! Freshmen! was the cry heard in Lebanon High School after the completion of a most sue' cessful season. Coach Adam and his rhinies really poured it on the opposition to bring home a record of 8 and 4, the best Freshman record in quite a few years. Speedy little Max Hanlon and lanky Bob Voorhis were the big guns for the greenies. Their only defeats were handed them by Frankfort, Lafayette Jeff, Crawfordsville, and Rossville. JUNICDR HIGH The Lebanon junior High team started its season on what looked like another perfect year by winning IO straight games before losing. Their record still looked very impressive for a future Tiger ball club with 10 wins and 4 losses. The Scott brothers, Steve and lvlarlon, led Coach Fred Cat Adam's boys to victory after victory until they were lost to the varsity at the midfterm. Page' SlXl5 jUllT 1948 Cedars TRACK Lehanon's newly formed track team com' peted against Frankfort, Delphi, Nohlesville, Fowler, and the many teams at the State See' tional, hut could not find an easy plueking in the hunch. Though the hoys failed to win a meet, they did win many first, second, and third places in the individual competition. Top honors went to Big Charlie Bryant, whose hrilliant speed as a dashfman won him many hlue rihhons. Other Lehanon winners were Don Kersey, one mile rung Jim Slagle, half mile rung joe Morrow, shotputq and our half mile relay team, consisting of Boh Cook, Leon Colgrove, Charlie Bryant, and Herb Rowland. In the classroom one finds many personalities. Among these human beings we find those who stand out above the others. LHS graduates are taking their share of honors bestowed by institutions of higher learning. Each individual plays an important part in the school and in the community alike. Some of these people will gain fame throughout the state or nation, while many of us will stay in the community to become wholefhearted supporters of our alma mater. Vvfhen we entered LHS in I944 as 'kgreen Iireshiesu we chose jim Boatman as president, Nancy Kushner as vicefpresif dent, and Glenda Nolte, as seeretaiyftreasurer. Our freshman party was held in the Home Ec room preceding a hasliethall game. Eating chili was the main feature of the party, During our Sophomore year we had little activity apart from slaying over our hooks, Some ol the girls served at the HIunior'Senior Prom and some ol the hoys played on the haskethall team, As we entered our junior year, we elected Gail Mullin to wield the gavel with Betty Detherage assisting as vieefpresif dent and Marilyn Newman as secretaryftreasurer. Mrs. jane Vvlard and Mr. Don Guilford were chosen as sponsors. During our junior year, we sponsored three successful mixers following hall games, The junior Carnival, despite severe cold weather, was a huge success and financed the juniorfSenior Prom which was held at the Armory, April IS. The Prom theme was I'Ieavenly Haven , at which Ruth Dillon reigned as queen, with Martha Christian and Marilyn Newman as her attendants. Now that we are Seniors and the curtain seems to he falling last, we recall that as we entered dear old LHS hack in I9-14, this tiiue seemed very far distant, hut now the time has come when we must leave these halls of learning and go out to lace lifr as men and women. Cupidis darts have found their mark in the hearts ol' several ol' our numher thus hastening the day when we must part. ,lim Boatnian was again chosen as president, thus serving at the heeinning and the end: Lloyd Cragun was elected vice' president and Marilyn Earle secretaryftreasurer. Following this event came the Senior Class Night and Baccalaureate.
