They are Our School because without them, there would be no school. It exists for them alone. It exists only with their aid. They include both teachers and student body. One of the most outstanding citizens of Our School that we, the Class of 1947, can remember during our high school life is Mr. Edward Fisher. His death this last winter was a blow to all of us. In spite of our disillusionment we can still tell the story of how we came this lar, so that our goal, and diploma, are now in sight. 'Way back in '43, we started our high school careers by choosing as our leaders Ben Cragun lpresidenlj, Bill Sullixan fvicefpresidentj, and Virginia Akers fsecretaryftreasurerj. Qui' Freshman party was held in the DugfOut, or I-logan's Tavern. It was called 'iThe Chamber Music Society of Lower Basin Streetn' a brainstorm of one Alice Marshall who lia- been brainstorming much to our class's credit these past four years. Cragun again started us oil' on our ways of becoming future presidents and such during our Sophomore year. His cap able assisiants were Dick Richey, as his chief advisor, and Mary Kay Stahl, as bookkeeper and holder of the purse strings. That year our class party was built around the presidential elections, with The People's Choice7Paul W. Neuman beingi elected. Then we passed the dividing line between underclassmen and upperclassmen and became a member of the latter group Ben Cragun again led us through the year as president, with Dick Richey again chosen vicefpresident and Virginia Akers a- seeretaryftreasurer. The junior Carnival was the gala affair of the year, next to the Prom. Nylon hose were ratlled oflf to the lucky holders of winning tickets. Dee Reese was elected the most beautiful girl in L. H. S. Witlw the pennies and dimes earned from the Carnival, we held the -luniorfSenior Prom at the Armory on May 10. Ou' theme was 'Lln Old Acapulco. Virginia Akers reigned as queen and Cecilia DeMott, justine Wilcox, Mary Kay Stahl, De-' Reese, and Nancy Burchell followed as attendants. Now comes the dawn-we are Seniors. This year Dick Richey was chosen president, lim Slagle vicefpresident, and Mar Kay Stahl secretaryftrcasurer. Our hrst important activity was the Senior Dinner Party, held at the Methodist Church October IS. The theme for thi' dinner party was lvloon Daze and the decorations and program carried out the idea with appropriate splendor. Then the days began to llf by with a rapidi,y which astounded all of us. Bclore we knew it we had had our las informal gathering as Seniors on Class Night, Baccalaureate was over, and we were sadly, solemnly, but oh! so proudly narch ing down the aisle in our caps and gowns to receive our diplomas. Although they are still lowly critters compared to us lordly Seniors, we have to admit that someday soon they wi.l be taking our place-Aand without much effort either! In the days when they were still little greenies they chose jim Boatrnan as president, Glenda Lou Nolte as vicepresident, and Nancy Kashner as secretaryftreasurer. They held their class party in the form of a chili supper in the Home Ec Room before a basketball game. Most of their entire Sophomore year was spent working toward the goal of becoming jolly juniors. Of course, they took time out once in awhile'-for example, several Sophomore girls, dressed in gay broomstick skirts and peasant blouses, served at the JuniorfSenior Prom and some of the boys played on the basketball team. They started off this, their Grst year in the upperclassmen bracket, by electing Gail The Brain Mullin as chief executive with Betty Detherage as vicefpresident and Marilyn Newman as secretaryftreasurer. Mrs, jane Ward and Mr. Don Guilford were chosen to guide them through these hectic days. Their first activity as juniors was to sponsor the Hrst of a series of three junior mixers in the Dugout after the Franklin ball game. This mixer and the two following were huge successes and aided them in planning for the Prom. Of course, the Prom is the most important event in the life of a Junior class member, so after many worries and headaches over money, decorations, and an orchestra, the Class of '48 put on a very successful Prom April 18 in the Armory. Junior Officers Betty Detherage, vicefpresident: Gail Mullin, preside-nt1 Iwlarif lyn Newman, secretaryftreas' urerg Mrs. jane iM. Ward and Mr. Don Guilford, sponsors. They played for all the basketball games this year, in the school itself, both for games in which LHS's Tigers played, and at all sessions of the County and Sectional Tourneysg they gave a superfspecial convo in lvfarcb, and they are always available at Honor Day and Commencement. Several of the musicians won nrst and second division honors in various musical high school contests. Pretty nice hunch of people? We think so. TWIRLERS Energy personiiied-that is what these girls are! just bundles of vim and vigor as they lead the hand through its paces at hall games. Wherever the band is, you are sure to End these girls, not only making music with the band, but going through all sorts of gymnastics before the band. We can't tell if they are doublefjointed or justhwhafs the word?-supple?-well, that is good enough! To them, too, we owe a debt of gratitude. They represent the student body of LHS to other schools and the people of other towns, with their clean, youthful vital appearance. The Tiger Cubs, composed entirely of Freshmen and Sophomores, completed their season of Hfteen games with only four wins against 11 defeats. Four of these losses, however, were by only one point. Rather than use juniors and Seniors on the B squad as other schools did, the Lebanon coaching staff worked underclassmcn so that they could gain experience. This move, naturally, was a factor in losing so many games. However, thc experience these boys gained should prove to be an asset to the Tiger teams of the ncxt three years. FRESHMAN SQUAD Height seemed to be the main factor in the Freshmen's seven won and four lost record. Although several of the members are shown in the Cubs picture, the squad boasted of two members over the six foot mark and three or four others rapidly approaching it. Several members of the team participated on the Cubs and one saw action with the Varsity during the tournaments. The rhinies avenged two defeats to Frankfort and Noblesville but suffered from two losses to Lafayette. , JUNIOR HIGH SQUAD Lebanon's Iunior High team this year gave promise for strong teams at Lebanon in 1951 and 1952. This group of seventh and eighth grade boys met all kinds of competition in their tweive game schedule and emerged undefeated. This squad was one of the best balanced junior high teams ever to play on the local court. Coach of this fine aggregation was Mr. Fred Cat Adam, former Lebanon hardwood star. The 1947 Cedars Page seventy seven TIGER SOFTBALL SQUAD Standing: Bob XVills, Dwaine Hiland, jim Slagle, Herb lVIcRoberts, Dick Richey, Larry Honan, Bob Heinbaugh, Jim Quellhorst. Kneeling: Jim French, Junior Quick, john Holloman, jack Johnson, jack Brown, George Laflin, Fay Isenhower. SOFTBALL Lebanon again entered the Boone County Softball League, but, playing inconsistent ball, could manage only to take third place. The Tigers won six games and lost two, one each to Zionsville and Whitestown, for a .750 average, Baseball took over from Softball during the Spring season. Mr, Willianu S. Doc Heath is the coach. L CLUB The L Club consists of boys who have earned their letters in varsity competition. A boy enters the L Club automatically upon receiving his letter, Sponsor of the organization is Mr. Forest Witsman, Athletic Director. L CLUB Standing: Ed Bramblert, Dick Richey, Mr. Witsllizlli.
