' I ' - 'Qlflfl QW lil 'Time, you old gypsy man, will you not stay? Put up your caravan for just one day. These verses by Ralph Hodgson perhaps express the feeling of many people who see their lives slipping by at what seems to be a breakneck speed. Yet, some of us go about our daily chores in a carefree way. All at once we wake up to a new, fast-moving world when it's too late to make the most of our lives. How many times have we heard people say, lf only l were to live my life over! Time will reveal everything to usp it is a babbler, and speaks even when no question is asked. When we entered Leavitt, we knew very few of our classmates, but in time we learned their names. Still later we learned their character without asking many questions. Today our judg- ment and mental growth are strengthened by these experiences and associations. Whether we know it or not, we have met people who will quite possibly influence our conduct and character all the rest of our lives: and in return we have made lasting impressions on other people. Goethe once said, We always have time enough if we will but use it aright. When we come to class and the teacher asks for our paper, we should not say that we have not opened a book because we did not have the timer it would be more nearly correct to say that we did not use our time to good advantage. It is interesting to notice that the people with the most obliga- tions and demands on their time can always make more time for further responsibilities. Re- member that time is money and when you do not take the advantage of time, you have wasted money coming to you in the future by not gaining the knowledge that you could have. Unlike money, however, time, once lost can never be regained. In four years there are some of us who can see what we have accomplished. The awkward, unknown freshman who may be sitting on the bench his first year out for football, four years later may develop his athletic abilities and reputation enough to make himself captain of the team. All through civilization, mankind has been trying to beat time. Seconds have lost lives and minutes empires. We are in a perpetual move and we know we shall have to lose eventually, but our goal should be to make so good a showing during this race that we will not fall into the undistinguished list of also-rans. We got off to a slow start in the early fall be- cause of the resignation of our coach just before school opened. However Captain Kilbreth saw to it that we got plenty of practice. Later we were fortunate in get- ting Leverett Campbell, a Senior at Bates College, to act as our coach. In our first game we tied with Monmouth 20-20 on their field, but later in the season they defeated us here 26-6. We lost to Eliot by a close score--23-19. Then York won from us 26-18. In our last game of the season we lost to our rival, Dixfield, 24-7. Captain Kilbreth was high scorer for the season, accounting for 57 points. QT fx 2 . , .,. .'i6,y,d' . Miss Beaton, our new coach, outlined the schedule of practices and games for the forthcoming season. As the season got under way quite a few girls dropped out. We now have 25 girls who comprise our teams. Friday, December 17, the boys and girls of Perley High School from Georgetown, Massachusetts arrived to spend the night with us. Perley beat us by a score of 30-13. After the game a Christmas Dance was held in their honor. Penny Roberts is our highest scorer this season with 117 points for 9 games. Jean Sennett scored second highest with 103 points for 10 games. Thus far we have won eight games and lost three. We have had a very good team this year. In what games we've played the girls all showed great spirit and determina- tion.
