EDITORIAL CO OPERATION Co operatron rs one of the greatest necessrtres rn the world today Although they probably never heard the word even chrldren tn the flrst grade are berng taught 1ts value as they learn to work and play together sharrng rnstead of berng selfrsh The further they advance 1n school the more they should realrze the need for workrng well together Class pro jects whether rn regular subjects lrke hrstory and geography or 1n extra currrcular 8CIlV1IlSS llke sports dramas and suppers all requlre team work They lose much of therr value and success 1f any rn the group farl to do theu share Everyone knows what happens to an athletrc team when the players do not fully co operate The best planned plays 1n football can get the ball carrrer nowhere wrthout the effrcrent blockrng of hrs opponents by hrs team mates The top effort of every player 15 needed to produce a wrnnrng team The same thxng holds true regard to dramas Any coach no matter how capable he or she may be frnds rt rmpossrble to stage a decent product1on unless all the cast attend rehearsals farthfully and learn thelr parts Just one false cue has been known to throw off the entrre group on stage causlng them to om1t sectrons vrtal to the development of the plot and drrvrng the poor prompter rn the w1ngs frantxc as he wrldly seeks the proper page Then too love scenes are not partlcularly effectrve when many of the speeches have to be supplred by a volce off stage Here at Leavltt as ln many schools the Senlor tr1p to New York and Vvashrngton has become a tradrtron an avarlable dates and 1n attendrng the varrous events held no class could reach 1ts goal The jomt efforts of all members of the class rtself are also requrred Food sales and suppers for rnstance can not be much of a success lf part of the group fall to br1ng the food promrsed for them We should not expect others to help us rf we are unwrllrng to do our share Our new audrtorrum 1S an outstandrng example of what co operatron can do Leavrtt students have long dreamed of havlng such a bu1ld1ng and at last the dream has been fulfrlled No magrc wand or Aladdrn s lamp brought th1s about It was the jomt efforts of the trustees school off1c1als alumnr other townspeople and frrends else where who contrrbuted so generously of both therr trme and money Endless hours of careful plannrng of each detarl have been necessary We surely feel very grateful to all who had a share 1n th1s project As the Senlors leave Leavrtt to take therr places tn th1s and other commumtles they wrll fmd they must co oper ate wrth the people around them rf they expect to garn happ1ness and success On the natronal scale co operatron has been the secret of any progress Amerrca has made Our polmcal partres may frght each other w1th every avarlable weapon durrng campargns Once the electron IS over however both partres work together for the good of the country as rs bemg shown rrght now under Presrdent Ersenhower World harmony can never be possrble untrl all natrons show a much greater wlllrngness to co operate and help each other than they have shown 1n the past ' . . .
