This building was donated by the Har- ocafionaf Annex The Vocational Annex is a comparatively new addition to LHS. This building, located at 512 Walnut Street, was first put into use in Septeniver of 1950. The office of O. R, Young, director of adult and vocational classes. is located in the annex. Classes conducted there are gen- eral metals, woodwork, mechanical drawing, machine cabinet, millwork, disa- tributive education, retail selling, and Office practice. Builders were Busboon 85 Rauh of Salina, and architects were Feth 85 Hazlewood of Leavenworth and Felt, Dunham Sz Krien of Kansas City, Mo. The Senior High School building was erected in 1933 for the education of boys and girls who desire to increase their skill in the vocational field or who are preparing to enter college. The steel, concrete, and brick construction of enior Sdoof the building offers little chance of a fire such as the one that burned the former high school building to the ground in 1932. The school's 670 students occupy 30 rooms, which include a library, cafeteria, study hall, science laborato1'y, typing room, home economic rooms, gym, auditorium, jour- nalism room, and music room, plus regular classrooms. Q I l'l'l OP? Abeles Armory, the new ROTC field- house, was completed April 15, 1952. A sum of 356,000 was appropriated by the school board to pay for the 140 ft. by '70 ft. building. The armory is located at Fifth and Isabell Streets. The modern- istic rooms contain facilities for sopho- more, junior, and senior classrooms: of- fices: and storage for equipment. Abeles Field, Leavenworth's amateur field at Fourth and Poplar, was donated to the Leavenworth school system by Julius Abeles. The field was prepared for use by the Rotary Club in 1925. Located on the west side of Abeles Field are permanent concrete bleachers which seat 1600 people. Temporary wooden bleachers on the east side, seating an- other 1600, are soon to be replaced with permanent bleachers.
