GIRLS SWIMMING Four years ago, we entered Leavenworth, and we looked forward to our swimming lessons. As Freshmen, under the capable direction of Miss Meehan, we learned the simple back stroke and how to float. We were also lectured on the dangers of the water and the value of knowing how to swim. During our Sophomore year, we mastered a few of the more difficult strokes. We learned, especially, the side stroke and the crawl which nabled us to swim longer distances. In our Junior year many happy hours were spent in the pool because we had lost all fear of the water. After three years we were veterans, Miss Meehan had taught us the essentials of life saving. We spent our time in the pool practicing on each other. We, th e Senior girls, wish to thank Miss Meehan for our enjoyable years in swimming.

CHEERLEADERS Under the skillful guidance of Miss Mary Casey, Leavenworth has produced a good squad of cheerleaders this year. Their superb work in leading the many cheers at almost every game contributed greatly toward the moral of the football and basketball players. This boost in moral was responsible for many of our victories. At the Thanksgiving Day football game with Crosby, a group of students were organized to act as a pep squad. This pep squad, led by the cheer- leaders, paraded on the field at half time carrying a Leavenworth banner and cheering. The girls also did exceptionally well in leading the cheers during our most successful Basketball season, as well as in the state tournament in New Haven. The squad consists of thirteen girls, three of whom are baton twirlers. There are seven girls who wear the traditional red and white suits, while the remaining three have skirts and sweaters. Pictured above, the girls are Cfirst row-left to rightiz Marie Genovese fcaptaini, Lois Schilling, Betty Vrotocoe, Jane Simpson. lSecond rowl: Louise DeSantis, Marie DePalma, Barbara Cook, Antoinette Silco, Shirley Boisvert, Joseph Salvatore, Lucille Drozd, June Asplund, Viola Verrastro.

GIRLS BASKETBALL AND VOLLEY BALL Each year in the gym was more successful than the previous. Our first year was spent for the most part in trying to learn the fundamentals of basketball and volley ball. After gaining the fundamentals we attempted a few slow games. By our Sophomore year we were able to play a successful game of volley ball, We played and learned it quickly because it was not as difficult as the other games. Each week we practiced more and more and became more adept at volley ball and badminton. Our Junior year was taken up in practicing basketball. Constant prac- tice make us play a better game. Now, as Seniors, we are able to play these games successfully. We can look back to the last three years and feel proud of what we have accomplished under the able direction and untiring efforts of Miss Meehan.
