ff' 4 2 M DEDICATION We, the staff of the I955 LECAPI have dedicated this annual to Mr. F. Truman Youngberg, who we think has been outstanding in his con- tributions to our school and our community. Mr. Youngberg has unselfishly devoted his 7 years in Leavenworth to the development and better appreciation of music . Bom in Brady, Nebraska, Mr. Younberg graduated from Gothenburg High School in Nebraska. Following high school, he attended the Conn National Music School in Chicago for a year on a music scholarship. He later attended Kearney State Teachers College, K e a r ne y, Nebraska, and received his A.B. Degree from Highlands University, Las Vegas, New Mexico. He also attended the University of Washing- ton one summer and did further work at College of the Pacific at Stockton, California, another summer. He and his wife, Odessa, were married December 26, 1946, at Azwell, Washington. Mr. Youngberg teaches all instruments, but especially likes the paino and baritone horn. One of his special interests is attending summer music camps of which he has attended four. His hobbies include hiking, traveling, and taking colored slides. While in Leavenworth, Mr. Youngberg has been active in the community in addition to teaching the Senior, Junior, and Beginning Bands, the Senior, Junior, and Jr. High Choruses, and training and accompaning soloists and ensembles. He is the organist and choir director of the Methodist Church. He is active in the Lions Club and started the Leavenworth Twirling Camp which is sponsored by the Lions Club. He help- ed organize the North Central Music District and was president for two years. In 1952, Mr. Youngberg received the Civic Service Award of the Eagles for his contribution to the community. In X954 he was honored in The School Musician , the official magazine of the American School Band Director's Association, in a monthly feature, They are making America Musical . The Lecapi staff would also like to commend the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club for bringing and organizing the National Ski Jumping Championships, which brought recognition to our community. FUREWORD We would like to think all the teachers, students, and business men and women that have contributed their time effort to make this edition a success. We want to express our appreciation, for without their help this wolrld have been impossible. If, in reading this book, you recall some of the happy times you have had at L.H.S . then our purpose in publishing this annual has been fulfilled. T HE STAFF
