If I .v Rf' i SENIOR HISTORY A page in history was made when, in the fall in 1943, the Class of 1955 began its long climb up the ladder of education. Of those starting school at Leavenworth, only I2 out of the original class, Edyth Hendrickson, Bill Bradshaw, Doris Couch, Bill Boning, Merwyn Pliss, Richard English, Clarence Ostella, Shirley Stegeman, Iean Wisemore, Frank Motteler, Roy Parton, and Barbara Ellis, remained to graduate with the Class of 55. During the next8 years, eleven new members were acquired: Irene Webb, Sharon, Coffee, Sherry Speer, Lee Baker, Rheeta Pliss, Sharon DeGroot, Zola Leapard, Jim Monesmith, Ro- land Wisemore, Carol Porter, and Bob Haugh. Dee King, Carol Porter, Rose Alyce McGahuey, Troy Myers, and Irene Webb moved a- way only to return to graduate with us. Eighth grade graduation was a big day for us with the American Legion awards for Out- standing Girl and Boy going to Sherry Speer and Roy Parton. The next fall we were given the official welcome from the Seniors and were properly initiated . That year only one new member stayed to graduate with us: Tom VanGelder. The next year, as Sophomores, we could relax for we were no longer strangers to L.H.S . We sponsored the annual Freshman-Sophomore picnic at Recreation Park. Jack Mayfield was the only addition to the class that year. The time had finally comel We were now officially known as upperclassmen. Under the sponsorship of Miss Schnackel and Mr. Jones we gave the annual Prom and Banquet. The theme was South Pacific , with the Gym decorated dramatically with 5, 000 sq. feet of fish net, silver sea creatures, a painted mural, orchids, and a refreshment bar . Orchid leis were flown in from Hawaii to honor the king and queen. Dal Hope, Donna Gaddis, and Judy Clark became new members of the Class of 55. The fall of 1954 brought us back as Seniors. Our last year in high school was highlighted by many wonderful events, the first being Homecoming and our Senior play. Hillbilly Wed- din '. In the spring we were honored at the Junior-Senior banquet and prom in the festive mood of Gay Paree. Datmting superstition, on Friday, May 13, we courageous Seniors took our Senior Sneak to Lake Wilderness. Bacculureate and Commencement climaxed the achievement of our 12 years of study. Following the graduation exercises, the Seniors and their friends were honored at a pany given by the organizations of the community. As we leave the peaceful harbors of L.H.S. , we look back upon our fond memories, with the hope that those who follow us will have a clear, vivid picture of their experiences.
