He aTTended New Haven High School before enTering The LJ.S, Naval Academy in June of TQSQ. AfTer graduaTion from The Naval Academy in June l91l2, he was ordered To U.S.S. Champlin DD-6015 in which he served from SepTember T942 To June i9-415 firsT as Torpedo Officer, Then as Gunnery, Officer, and laTer as ExecuTive Officer. ln ThaT DesTroyer he parTicipaTed in The Sicilian Invasion, bombardmenfs of The Formio- Anzio area of lTaly, and The invasion of SouThern France, as well as convoy and escorT operaTions in The NorTh ATlanTic. T ln July l9Ll5, he reTurned To Annapolis as a sTudenT in The Special Physics area of Ordnance Engineering aT The Naval l3osT GraduaTe School, conTinuing The course aT The MassachuseTTs lnsTiTuTe of Technology,receiving The degree of MasTer of Science in February l91l8. For The remainder of ThaT year he was assigned To work aT The Special Weapons Froiecf in Albuquerque, New Mexico and aT The Los Alamos ScienTific l.aboraTories. In l91l9, he reporTed To The lJ.S.S. Coral Sea TCVA-ASD in which he served as AssisTanT Gunnery Officer and Special Weapons Officer unTil OcTober of ThaT year. From OcTober i949 unTil June l95l, he was assigned as Technical Officer in JoinT Taslq Group 3.l parTic- ipaTing in The OperaTion Greenhouse aTomic weapons TesTs aT EniweTol4 in The Spring of l95l. The nexT year, from July l95l To June l952, he served in The Bureau of Ordnance on The sTaff of The AssisTanT To The Chief for Nuclear Energy ApplicaTions. He commanded The lJ.S.S, Nawman CDE-Liloj from July i952 unTil June l954l.His nexT assignmenT was wiTh The Field Command, Defense ATomic SupporT Agency in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he was Direoifor of The Technical Training Division unTil July l957. During The nexT year, from AugusT V957 To June l958, he aTTended The course in Naval Warfare aT The Naval War College in NewporT, Hhode lsland.
