Many sophomores gained experience for the years to come. The boys played with determination and effort. We have high hopes for the team in the future. Doyle,). Sundberg, S. Bicksler, Coach Williamson. Demon Netters Finish Season At 14-4 The Leaf River volleyball team completed a successful season with a 14-4 regular season record. After getting off to a tough 4-3 start, the hard working Demons went on to compile a 10-1 record beginning Sept. 12 before being handed a tough loss in regionals. The season was highlighted by a second place finish in the eight team Leaf River Invitational, a second place finish in the Northwest Eight Conference with a 10-2 record, and impressive road victories such as the 18-16 win at Mt. Carroll. The 1983 volleyball team was composed of three Juniors and eight Seniors. The three Juniors who will make up the nucleus of next year's team are Stephanie Bicksler, Stacy Bilyeu, and Sarah Zipse. The eight Seniors are Dianne Campshure, Tracy Cook, Denise Doyle, Dana Norup, Jill Rutkoske, Deanne Sattgast, Joni Sundberg, and Danis Yocum. All eight of these Seniors have participated in volleyball their entire High School career and in their Junior and Senior years compiled an impressive 31-4 regular season record. This record included an astonishing 14-0 regular season road record and 22-2 conference record. On an individual note, four Demon volleyball players were given All-Conference recognition. Dianne Campshure and Jill Rutkoske were named to the First Team, Dana Norup to the Second Team and Joni Sundberg was given Honorable Mention. 34 Volleyball Volleyball 35 FRESH-SOPH 36 Volleyball Volleyball 37 L-R: T. They won more games than in the previous four years. Their defensive average, their points scored per game and their rebounding percentage showed improve- ment over the previous year. The team was led by Seniors Scott Smice, Evan Buskohl and Victor Thonn. Other seniors are Paul Knodle and Darrin Livingston. As the season progressed each girl improved in skill and per- formance. Team members were Junior Steph- anie Bicksler, Sophomores Marcia Sattgast, Mary Bicksler, Donna Tucker, Nickie Hollaway, Robin Fager, Shelly Kurtenbach, Honorae Thonn, Debbie Smith and Freshmen Kim Wells, Barb Branson, Vickie Smith, Kim Schabacker, managers Maggie Spriggs and Wendy Oelrich. This was an extremely good year for the Leaf River FFA Chapter. Our new adviser, Mr. Robert Nelson, helped guide us to a successful and enjoyable year. We had a number of Chapter activities including the Alumni Pig Roast, Farm Progress Show Trip, Winter Bowling Party and the State Convention. We also participated in the Secton I contests: Land use 8th place, Crops Judging 5th place, State Crops Judging Red Croup, Parliamentary Procedure 5th place. Bowling 6th place, Dairy Judging 5th place. Speech Janet Maxwell, first in extemporaneous, Ray Smith third in prepared. The pig roast netted $1300 and the main money making project was the sale of fire- wood which earned $3000, helping us to buy a com- puter. Awards received were: National 100% Chap- ter.
